Gen x is like "Brand X." The hippie boomers said we had no identity, nor cared about anything, so Gen X. Even the 'Brand X" reference is to 60's era shite.
Then we revolutionized the way information is shared and used. Boomers, who have a catchy name, only gave us the beginnings of the marxist erosion of our society.
I'll take X.

This whole time I thought it had to do with X-men.

because we were too busy cleaning up after the baby boomers and supporting millenials?

Gen X was the last generation that grew up with the worry of a military draft and the threat of nuclear war. The fall of the Soviet Union was an enormous event but when the first Gulf war broke out people aged around 18 genuinely believed they would be drafted into combat.

It was my understanding Gen X was because we were unknown. We came up in a time there was nothing going on except the cold war. They had no clue how we'd turn out.
HERE. I'll let Bart and Lisa explain, from an episode that aired smack dab in the middle of that time.

Then Gen Y which is really Gen WHY. Because that's all they said. They questioned everything.
That's how science, and society, advances baw.

Actually, Gen X was taken from the professional wrestling movement ‘Degeneration X’ with Shawn Michaels and Chyna.

We should start naming them like hurricanes. Start with A and make they are diverse names

Shut up boomer
Not happening.
I will admit that my life eventually ended up playing out much like your timeline indicates. But it didn't start out that way. It started out with shitty job after shitty job until I earned my shot. And there was a ton of sweat and hard work blended in that your timeline completely ignores. But I'm not whining, because I wasn't raised to whine like some on here.
Also, if you really believe that the majority of the boomers had anything to do with creating the global economy and so forth, you don't understand how the world works. So quit blaming a whole generation for the moves that were made by a relatively small number of "boomers by birth" that really don't represent the entire generation.
So here's my timeline:
Had a non-union job on a pick and shovel, and was glad to have it so I could get off of my dad's payroll at 18 years of age. Followed with everything from driving a truck to deck hand on a shrimp boat, to anything else that would make me a dime.
Landed my first union job at 23 building oil storage tanks and water towers. arse busting dangerous work. Had to pull up stakes for that job, leaving my family and my beloved Louisiana behind.
Parlayed that experience into a job with a major oil company at 25. Still doing arse busting, hot arse work in maintenance.
Married at 26. Didn't have a clue how we would make ends meet sometimes. I don't know where people got the idea that a job with an oil company made you immediately wealthy. We got by.
Became a homeowner at 34 - financed home at 9.9% Wouldn't pay 10% because God only asks for a 10% tithe and I wasn't paying a bank more than that.
Bought first boat of my own at 39 - paid hard earned cash for it.
I haven't had to look for another job because I appreciated the one I had and didn't do anything stupid to lose it. More than that, I worked hard to be an asset to my company instead of a useless burden.
My wife never worked because we wanted her at home when the kids needed her and sacrificed to make it happen. As a result we still live in the same 1400 sq/ft 3/2/2. Of course that also means we have been DEBT FREE for many years and have a healthy 401K.
Retired now with zero regrets.
So that's my timeline. Yours just looks like a bunch of excuses you are using to explain why you think you have the right to whine about what the boomers did to you.

tl;dr boomer. Thanks for the communism.
Was that on the time line?

I was 19 when Desert Storm happened. I think I remember some chatter about the draft being brought back. I definitely remember my parents (and my bitch girlfriend) demanding that I not enlist...

It was the Me Generation and then the MTV Generation.

I didn't start a union, I paid dues to one because it was easier than not. I never needed the union to keep my job. My work ethic did that for me. Most of the people out there today wouldn't have a job, if it wasn't for the union, because the live on their cell phones and act like you're bothering them if you ask them to do their job. And they aren't boomers.
When I hired on there were no radios or even newspapers allowed. We worked. Our mentors were guys that fought in WW II and they expected you to pull your weight. No Communism.
Forgot to mention Viet Nam vets that actually fought communism.
