Why did Covid deaths get lumped into Memorial day?

I don't usually get fired up about silly things but I need a sounding board for this one. Yesterday listening to a county radio station the DJ adds commentary about how on this day to remember sacrifices we should honor all who lost their lives to Covid-19.
I served 20 years in the Navy and yesterday isnt about me or my brothers and sisters who are still here. It's about those who volunteered or were drafted and did not make it home. I mentioned this to some people and they seem to think MIA/KIA and covid are some how equal. I guess I lost a few acquaintances due to this but oh well.

It's one country DJ likely with a GED level education.

Don't let them trigger you.

For the same reason people are wanting to treat nurses like combat veterans.

When did it become that everyone started getting triggered about the stupidest crap in life.

I agree that is a gross misrepresentation of what the holiday is supposed to mean.

People probably just can't stand the idiocy of virtue signaling.

I don't consider bitching about a radio DJ's virtue signaling, to be considered a virtue itself.

If so, then i guess internet forums, in general, is just one massive virtue signaling depot.

Because Trump ordered flags to be flown at half staff on Friday and Saturday for Covid victims, I guess because the flag was going to be half staff on Monday anyway.

I didn't see anyone yesterday lumping COVID-19 cases in with honoring fallen soldiers.

Just because one or two people do that doesn't mean that everyone does. I think most people know what Memorial Day is about.

I guess I’ve gotten used to the nonstop Covid19 virtue-signaling to the point where it doesn’t bother me... but I noticed a lot of it getting worked into Memorial Day. Felt like that was taking it a bit too far.
