That must be combined.

Fords Eco boost is a great example of this. V-6 with a turbo charger, great mileage when not towing, powers available when towing.
Active cylinder/fuel management (different manufacturers use different terms) but simply turning off the fuel to varying cylinders when the engine isn't under load has been a brilliant innovation.
Combining these things with 8 speed and soon to be 10 speed transmissions....

Agreed.
If you would've told somebody 10-15 years ago about this they would've laughed you out of the fillin' station.

Fords new 2.7L ecoboost is a good example
It's a smaller version of the more powerful 3.5 ecoboost yet it is plenty capable for a full sized truck. It also shuts off the engine when you stop to conserve fuel.

Really, really hate this feature in all new cars and trucks.

Ran into a guy at yellowstone this year that was pulling a 28' camper with one, said it did great
Blew my mind

I'm not a fan either but they have to make every mpg count

Back in the day, if you got a six in your truck, you was po'.

I have a 31' camper that weighs about 9500 lbs and my ecoboost has no trouble at all with it

Any #s on how much fuel it actually saves? I'm sure they're out there but I've never seen them.
Answer this as well, what if you want to run into the store and your dog (or whatever) is in the car and you want to leave it running?

You put in Park, hopefully.
feature only engages in drive gears, cap.

I have no idea.
The AC and everything works when the engine shuts off but I'm not sure how long that will work for before it may have to restart
The engine supposedly gets good mileage, but the gain is minimal in the 4wd version.

How does it handle mountains?
Posted on 11/11/15 at 9:34 am to Old Sarge
The only mountain I've driven is the Horace wilkinson bridge
It handled it fine

Yes, but mine is a 3.5.
The 4wd issue is with the 2.7L
Of course mine gets worse mileage than an equal 2wd also, but the drop isn't as drastic as with the 2.7
Eta: I only get about 9 mpg towing my camper but that's pretty much expected

I'm sure your mods and driving style have nothing to do with it
Dat power tho
I average about 16 combined, but a lot of it is highway though I do have oversized tires
