This may be a stupid question but why doesn't it just change at midnight?

Ever heard of summer solstice? Apparently not.

Because that would probably be more confusing regarding time /date issues.

Today it is 10/24/17. At midnight, it is 10/25/17, then its 11pm again or 10/24, then its midnight again or 10/25/17.

That's silly.

It's midnight on the west coast so no parts of the country change in different days.

I haven't a clue. I'll ask my contacts in Greenwich and get back to you.

This is the correct answer.

Because that's when most farmers have to wake up for their 21 hour shifts, and farmers dictate our calendars.

So I guess it was a stupid question then.

Speaking of time change...I just got back from FT. Benning Georgia. Georgia is on Eastern Time and across the bridge, Alabama is on Central time. I can only imagine how fricked up it must be if you had to cross the bridge to go to work in a different time zone.

Why do new days start at 12:00 AM instead of 1:00 AM?

Why is 12:59 AM not actually called 12:59 PM?

There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Not even close. This is one of the most reasonable questions I've seen on this website.

I wish the would just push clocks ahead again on this upcoming time change and then pull them back in the Spring so that we always have a lot of daylight.

There's a lake between the two states (I can't remember the name), but when you're there your phone will keep switching towers (one in Georgia and one in Alabama) and the time will constantly change. I was pretty confused as to what the actual time was when we were there. I don't even remember which side of the lake we stayed on.
