They did. The narrative of people sitting at home watching the View or playing Video games is convenient for people to use . The staffing issues are more on the lower side jobs. Clerks and fast food workers, mostly.

I’ve accumulated 43000 sky miles since January. I’ve only had 4 cancellations but I’ve had at least 20 delays. All of my cancellations were weather related and all of the delays were staff related.

3 of the four cancellations were Denver to DFW. DFW to BTR is the leg I’ve experienced the most delays.

The better indicator is work force participation rate which isnt good I think like 60% or so

Labor force participation rate age 25-56 years is 83% - barely different than prepandemic. A large part of the problem is our changing demographics.

There is a huge pilot shortage at the moment. Airlines knew this five years ago. The Covid shut downs really messed things up as far as hiring. Airlines are now hiring pilots without a college degree and paying candidates for flight school. It's a great time to get into the business if you are young enough. Pilots at the major airlines are making $300k plus now. They are talking about raising the mandatory retirement age for pilots to 67. Pretty much all the pilots from the Vietnam years retired within the last ten years or so.

Took me 2 days to get home from Schipol Amsterdam. Luckily a coworker had a hotel room booked to leave the next day or I would have been sleeping on a bench.

That doesn't explain why we have a shortage of police, ems, teachers, postal workers, health care, and airline workers

Unfortunately the way unemployment is calculated is terrible and doesn’t take into account a large portion of the populace living on welfare

How we became a nation where so many people live on welfare is astounding. We seem to have completely dispensed with the term “personal responsibility” in this country.

It changed migration for work. Appalachia has been a great example for 60 years.

People used to go where the jobs are, now they ride out benefits.

My neighbor is a first officer for a major airline who's been flying this same aircraft for 29 years. He had to switch to a different plane during the scale back in 2020 and had to go through FAA required training and check flights for that aircraft and flew mostly cargo flights domestically and internationally while the industry was coming back in 2021. They opened back up his original aircraft for him to fly and he had to go through FAA required re-certification training even though he has flown this aircraft for years and has been waiting for 3 months for his 4 leg check ride. Problem is there aren't enough check ride pilots to cover the number of re-certified pilots and new pilots to meet the demand.

Delta noted in an email to The Associated Press that Saturday's cancellations were due to bad weather and "air traffic control actions," noting it's trying to cancel flights at least 24 hours in advance this Memorial Day weekend.

They've tried this before and got called out for it. I guess it's their go-to excuse?

In the case of airline and Healthcare workers, look at company policy. There were many Healthcare workers who were fired for refusing to get vaccinated and a fair amount of burnout among RN's who are working, just not in big hospital networks. Airline workers are there they are taking advantage of the airlines rules on Covid. " If you don't feel well, stay home."

I was recently at Newark and the gate agent told me that on any weekend now you can expect 15 -20% absentee in both airline staff and airport people. I was in a TSA line at 1pm on a Saturday which is supposed to be the slowest time there and they had a line that lasted at least 45 minutes. Gate agent said that when you have 1 in 5 calling in on the weekends this is what you get.

So a lot are working, the distribution is different. The cops are leaving their jobs especially in the big cities for reasons stemming from the George Floyd bullshite to pay. NOPD guys have told me that Latoya does not like paying plus now there is a crackdown on details that although always abused was the only way a lot of these cops were able to make ends meet....one cop told me" saving the taxpayer money comes at a cost"
