Can you honestly not see why someone wouldn't want a full size truck?

My 2010 Tacoma has 304,000 and I've done nothing but change one wheel bearing.
I use Mobil 1 synthetic and change the oil every 20,000 miles.
I didn't even change the serpentine belt until 180,000 miles.

2010 Black PreRunner Sport Double Cab. 125k miles on it.
Also use Mobil 1, but change mine every 3-5k miles.
There is legitimately nothing wrong with the truck.
No accidents. No mechanical issues. Minimal interior wear and tear.

I get trade in offers for $18-20k regularly. This isn't an accident. My trucks's longevity and value is like 99% of the rest of Tacomas on the road. Hence the answer to the OP's stupid question. People are willing to pay that price because of dependability, re-sale value, and the fact it's a fantastic financial decision if you aren't compensating for some reason or another....

My 2002 Tacoma was the best vehicle I ever owned. I literally had tears in my eyes when I traded it in.

My 1996 4 Runner a close second. You can't beat a Toyota baws!

Subaru absolutely is the vehicle of lesbians, they chose that path

because not everyone cares about a dick measuring contest with who can get the biggest and most outrageously priced truck that 95% of people don't need.

Here are my observations (all 4 full door versions):
2016 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 (STL - Z71)
V8 - 21 Mpg
40K miles
$31,000
(Chevy Silverado version is maybe $1K
Less)

2016 F-150 4x4 (Lariat - FX4)
V8 - 23 Mpg
40K miles
$30,000

2016 Tacoma 4x4 (TRD Pro)
V6 - 20 Mpg
40K miles
$32,000

The fullsize 1/2 ton trucks (used) are slightly less expensive, offer more upgrades/accessories, get slightly better Mpg, have considerably more towing capacity, have much more interior room, and have much more cargo capacity.

Outside of parking, I’m just not seeing where the Taco is a better option.

My FIL drives a 1987 Toyota 2wd truck that he bought for $2500 a little over 10 years ago. The odometer stopped working over a year ago with over 465,000 miles on it. That's the only thing that has stopped working on it. It refuses to die.

One could argue they have a longer life expectancy, but GM/Ford can easily get 250K+.

At that point, you are around 1/2 of what he has on his truck, and it isn't showing any signs of stopping.

not to mention maybe half of the GM/Ford's sold will hit 250k miles without costing a fortune to keep on the road. but that doesn't fit the OP's narrative so i being ignored.

I don’t really notice many here but I don’t pay attention either so maybe they are poplar.

It doesn’t really stand out

They’re great trail trucks, and are super fun in a manual. The manual 4x is still cooler than whatever Jeep is about to put out.

I agree they’re fun in manual.
My first vehicle was a manual SR5. Good times until I flipped it end over end.

I’ve got one now that just hit 200,000 miles. I don’t know if I’ll ever get rid of it. Change the oil every 3,000 miles and that’s it. Those things are tanks.

The problem is, you are comparing the top package in the Tacoma with mid range packages in the other vehicles. What is the price comparison between the trd pro, and a King ranch, or raptor?

... And even in the South this hasn't been true for some 15 years. Last winter, I drove on shite in MT with my old forester and regular highway tires w no chains that was sending trucks and suvs into spins, all around me. Most notably a downhill-grade drive off the mountain after it had snowed about a foot during the day.

Not being ugly, but Im not sure what a lot of that means (MT, mountains, chains, snow, grade - just kidding). If driving is that complicated for your lifestyle, seriously I would just like move or something. I’ve not seen snow in over 20 years, so this is all like talking about make believe to me.

But what I do see are older to middle aged women driving Subarus quite often. I didn’t just walk up and inquire of their sexual preference, but I might start next time.

Of course if it doesn’t stop raining down here, the conversation will turn to boats and we will be discussing whether Trackers and Xpresses are trashy.

the top tacoma package may have a few offroad perks but is still full of bland.

Tacomas earned their good reputation and high resale. However Toyota fully knows this, and it's now priced in to the MSRP. No way I'd pay almost the same for a Tacoma as a Tundra. When they were cheap in the early 00's was awesome. I remember a V6 extra cab prerunner was $20k.

Underrated comment. Toyotas last forever and the resale is among the highest for any vehicle. My brother bought a used Tacoma, drove it for 3 years, and then sold it for the same price. No kidding

That’s amazing.
I’ll concede resale, but the fullsize trucks aren’t terrible here either.
