heavy media coverage and sensationalism of a school shooting doesn't exactly help stop future shootings
Was listening to a radio station not too long ago after there was a "small" shooting at a school. when I say small, it was like 1 or 2 people. The radio host was complaining that he couldn't believe it wasn't higher up in the news and that our priorities are messed up when we show the latest Trump tweet over kids getting killed. I understood his sentiment that it's absurd that children are dying, but I was quite happy that we weren't sensationalizing the act. I'm sure they weren't keeping it low key out of some moral standard, but instead the body count wasn't high enough to feed their ratings. But it was nice to not have the shooter get the attention they wanted.

Cptcrazy and others in here have showed another huge problem
I am a red blooded conservative, but will admit, conservatives like to act like the left and dodge the question here by changing the subject and attacking a truth that is staring us in the face

Columbine was the start. Those kids were made victims and damn near canonized. The whole "bullying" phenomenon started there

South Africa is literally having a genocide right now.
Seriously, turn off CNN, and log out of FB.
I don’t watch CNN. I logon to FB to check what photos my wife has posted of our kids.
South Africa isn’t a developed country. 2nd world, maybe.

There are a number of reasons, but I'll say this: CNN and NBC and FOX etc jumping on and giving every shooter so much attention only makes this more likely to happen again. You give these mostly loners the first attention they have ever received in their life. Then, some other loner in his basement who has no life purpose sees this as his opportunity to get recognized, and he goes out and does the next one. The same thing applies for terrorism. The media essentially recruits for terrorist organizations.

I've seen an interesting theory on the relation of SRI (anti depressant) medication and school/mass shootings. I'm on mobile but there is some studies that pop up on the google.

Add to this the fact that the news tracks them in a list "the deadliest school shooting", "the third deadliest"... I think some of these people take it as a challenge to out-do the previous.

Ahh, seen that chart multiple times today.
Did you know that half of Yemen doesn't have clean drinking water? They've also been in a civil war pretty much since 2014.
There were almost a million cases of cholera that killed over 2200 people.
But let's compare them and say they are better than the US.
I'll go home a drink a nice glass of water to that.

Okay. I’ll play your game.
How many kids in South African schools are being killed by their fellow students at school?

Social media and the 24 hour news cycle has to be partly to blame.
-There were 30 school shootings in the 1970s.
-There were 39 in the 1980s.
-62 in the 1990s.
-60 during the 2000s.
-From 2010-present, there have been 143.

Third World
Also, respect that only they have gotten rid of all their own nukes. Because if you think Africa is fricked now, imagine post apartheid South Africa driving nuke trucks everywhere. Like goddamned Lord Humongous just demanding water.

The media sensationalizing the shooting is the problem along with parents not disciplining their children.
Those are the 2 reasons for the uptick in the # of school shootings.

Honestly, that is a selective graph. Anyone can randomly tally up the lowest of lows statistically and combine them to support a narrative. Like using a single country in Africa and infant mortality compared to the US, France, Germany, Swiss, Canada, and other well established countries with good hospitals.
Notice that they didnt really include any gun ownership countries.
