My kids are out for spring break the whole week. Northern schools were out last week.

You go to school X days per year. Who cares how those days are allocated?

Our schools get a week off for Mardi Gras, and 4 days off for Easter.

A lot of norther schools start a month after us, but end 3 weeks after us. That's your Mardi Gras week.

Louisiana does have 3 less mandatory minimum days than most states. Minnesota is like the lowest by like 15 days or something.

Edit, nope looks like it is Colorado by 20 days.

They do not believe in teaching kids about religion

I know you are trying to be clever and make a stupid point, but the fact is that a LOT of public school students and faculty are actually Catholic and do observe the holiday. There is no point in scheduling school knowing that a lot of the people won't show.

We’re not off here in Louisville, but we’ll excuse the absences of Catholics participating.

It’s likely just that you have enough students and staff involved that it’s cheaper to use it as one of your non-attendance days than to take the hit in substitute teacher costs. We do the same thing here for Oaks Day (it’s made a flexible professional development day, if you have your hours you’re off) because of a similar impact.

I went to Catholic School my entire school years thru high school.
I think we had school on Ash Wednesday. Seems like I remember going to mass and receiving the ashes.
That was back in the sixties, so I may be having a Joe Biden moment.

Technically speaking the state doesn't define it as days, they define it as contact minutes

Still controlled by Catholic majority school boards.

So what?

I'm Baptist. I find no reason that there is any problem with this.

The parents raised hell. He didn't quite understand that half the school goes to Disney this week.
