re: Why are Pit Bull owners offended by facts?

I never thought I’d be a pit bull owner, but I’m glad I stumbled upon this mutt.
No doubt, a lot of times adopted mutts are the best dogs ever. As long as the owner takes precautions if necessary (including their handling) then I really don't see a problem with owning them but there are certainly some dog owners that can't even take care of themselves much less a dog that has an alleged predisposition to aggression, and they tend to be a lot of the reason that certain breeds get bad reps.

So is it actual "pits" with papers that kill or just back yard breeders with dogs with blocky heads?

This right here. I won’t ignore the facts. The numbers are there for all to see. Lots of people that can’t take care of themselves also procreate when they shouldn’t. It’s not limited to dogs.

That is what I was asking. lol. From the pictures the American one had the big block head and short legs and looked like it'd been repping 250 and the pit bull terrier one looked like a floppy eared goofy dog. I really don't know.
This is the first site google brought up. They definitely look different.

Kinda like judging all bikers based off of the assumption they act like Hells Angels?
You’d have a point if bikers were known for randomly going apeshit and ripping out the throat of small children.

OT pitbull threads are my favorite

Mine would be closer to the terrier based on that pic. The second one looks like a gangster.
For me, this is a ‘don’t knock it until you’ve tried it’ sort of thing. Because of my experience with my current dog, I wouldn’t mind owning another. They seem low maintenance. Very friendly and loving. They also tend to be couch potatoes.

Yeh some of the "bully" ones look like something from a 90s Rap Video lol. I know a girl who has the terrier one and from what I have seen of it, its basically a big baby but I don't have the answer to the argument I just want to figure out which one people don't like or if it's both.

A guy I know has a pit and when I tell him pits aren't a good dog to have around kids he goes on the whole "its how they're raised" tangent. He also gets pissed when others tell him he can't bring the dog to their houses because of neighborhood rules.
I would have whipped your arse if you talked about my pittie that way

The OT says any dog thats not a small yippee one, a lab, some hunting variant or a German shepherd is a pitbull.

I assume you're referring to your pit here. No wonder you bought that dog, seems you had to compensate for something.

Both are dangerous but the pit bull terrior is the most dangerous by numbers. The bully you refer to is a mix between a pit and American bull dog and would be considered a type of pit by most people. It's breed to be even more dangerous due to weight to height ratio. They are not as popular so less reported attacks.
Pit bull terror, pit bull variants and Rottweiler are by far the most dangerous dogs and account fur something like 75% of serious attacks.

That site you linked is a propaganda machine vs supposed Pit type breeds. Get data from veterinarian orgs if you want some reality.

You shut the frick up and reseaerch the craziness of dogbites.org. I have been around a shite ton of aggressive dogs at scent work training and trials, any breed can be aggressive. Have had 3 Dobes and 2 mixed breed dogs and they all behaved differently in stressful situations, plus a 85 lb yellow Lab that was very territorial.

personally, i’m on the side of “it’s how they’re raised.”
i had an aggressive breed for 12 years that was/is highly stigmatized.
her breed kept me out of most apartment complexes and pretty much forced me to buy a house in my mid twenties.
anyone who knew my angel-girl knew that she was docile as a butterfly but would probably take your face off in one fell swoop if you came at me wrong.
it’s definitely how they’re raised, but i do agree there are breeds that have an ‘aggressive’ or ‘possessive’ disposition- that includes dachshunds - one of most aggressive breeds i’ve ever encountered every time.
*however, i never would trust any dog - not even my girl 1000% around a kid or anyone i even remotely thought she’d misunderstand intentions. she’s still a dog.
rip. i miss you baby girl.
