Why are pipeline/oilfield baws so braggadocious about their career?

This seems to be the only career field where a large portion of its workers find it necessary to brag on social media and truck stickers about where they work and how much money they make. And so many have to buy stuff they really cannot afford without long term financing.

Is it an inferiority complex? Insecurity about their standing in life where they feel the need to pretend they're some type of baller when in reality they're middle to upper middle class blue collar workers with some type of vocational certification?

Pride in their work.

Novel concept in corporate America.

My guess would be because some are making over $100k with a GED and maybe some technical school.

I can go right to the spot I helped put a pipeline across the Mississippi river 40 years ago. Most people can't point at something like that.

I think a lot of it has to do with wealth relative to education level.

I know farmers with no college education that are millionaires and they don't have "farmer trash making farmer cash" stickers on their truck or boasting about how women drop their panties when they hear you're a farmer.

Seems only oil and gas workers do this regularly. It reeks of insecurity

maybe they have pride in what they do? Why does an MD have to be called doctor in every situation?
Nurses and teachers can't go 10 seconds without telling you what they do or how noble they are for doing it. I know cops who can't quit talking about what they do, no matter the social setting.

Some might be bragging, but maybe they just enjoy what they do and take pride in it.

well considering that these types of people are considered to be holding the country together and keeping it going, I don't see why your jimmies are so rustled.

You sound more insecure and inferior than anyone you described. You should look in a mirror more often.

Who does this? I know lots of doctors and don't call any of them doc unless it's in their work setting.

I worked in the oil bidness until I retired a few years ago. I'm very proud of my time in the oil patch.

Doctors do this all the time when I worked in a restaurant. If you didn't call them Dr. or say MD after their name, they would get offended. They would call to make a reservation and would make sure you knew it. I would say the same of certain lawyers too.

I know four doctors. They all get pissy if you don't address them by their title. Granted, this isn't around the pool or playing golf. But they are proud of their title and want to be called "doctor" or "doc".

JME.

oh and I've had similar experiences with PHDs.
