They have groups of elevators that service around 15-25 floors and are pretty fast. Not as bad as you would think but you definitely have to wait.

Penthouse floors have a special elevators for them baws.

That is just my experience though.

If you believe reports the super talls are all pretty much vacant. Just reap estate holdings with soft much actual occupancy.

recent road trip across the country and way too much brutalist architecture in this country.

The style that's mostly here and what you see around the country that's truly depressing is the "International Style". Think plain square boxes that are build for cost and efficiency and not much else.

There are a few examples of Post Modern building that have interest and style. Phillip Johnson designed some very cool buildings, like PPG Plaza in Pittsburgh, TC Energy Building in Houston, The Lipstick Building in New York, that actually has a lot of Art Deco influences.

End of the day, I couldn't agree more with the sentiment that Art Deco should have been the base architectural direction for the US.

Uniquely American Architecture would make a lot more sense than copying European styles.

America being a melting pot has led to its cities looking a lot more diverse and more interesting in my opinion. Modernism and Mies van der Rohe disciples certainly had more influence than desired by most.

Brutalist architecture is ugly on purpose.

Wish BR LA had a new Skyscraper ....nothing Taller than 12 stories since the late 80's; while Austin & Nashville Skylines continue to grow

When I Iook at BR from afar, all I notice is an old bridge with stopped traffic sitting on it. And I think nothing more than three lanes bottlenecking into one since the 50s while Austin & Nashville continues to roll.

frick the rest of BR's skyline.

I know it's dirty right now but the LA Capitol exuded sex. A huge dick with balls and reliefs with titties.

They are all built on a tiny footprint so you have to go straight up to get the sq footage to make it profitable. Just my guess from those pictured.

It is. It has been from the beginning. The Europeans (mostly Germans) that developed the style were heavily influenced by Anarchist and Marxist theory in the teens and twenties and thirties. That led to any kind of beauty or ornament in architecture being considered decadent and bourgeois. This kind of “ugliness is beauty “ horseshite dominated art and architecture for far too long.

Most of the super skinnies are being built on the south edge of Central Park. They call it Billionaire’s Row. Includes towers like One57, 432 Park Avenue, 111 West 57th Street (Steinway Tower), and Central Park Tower, which is the tallest residential building in the world.

They actually look pretty cool from the vantage point from south Central Park.
