They can take a hike. S Jr. only attends the finest of finishing schools. And his jai alai club is undefeated!

As opposed to leaving them in certain doom by leaving them in failing schools.

interesting. I know absolutely nothing about it so it was a genuine question.
A super lib family member made a FB post about how bad they are so I came here.
Here's a good article on one in Breaux Bridge

I disagree completely with that comment. I’m glad your dad did not teach my children.

The answer to education isn't within the education system, but in larger society. Kids need to be taken out of shitty families more often and if that means we have to open up orphanages then open up a thousand of them. Kids aren't paychecks, as Outkast once said.
What’s sad is that many people who agree with this nazi-ist statement will cuss and rage about their freedoms getting infringed by liberal politics.
Kids aren’t paychecks, but the answer isn’t to rip them away from their families (what little they have). The answer is to stop rewarding people for merely existing by robbing people who actually contribute to society and giving it to these “takers”. That will keep them from having babies simply for the check.

It boils down to control.
The family unit, and its autonomy from the decisions of the state, can either be strengthened or undermined by public policy.
Public schools give those who are opposed to traditional outlooks vehicles for state mandated capture and indoctrination of the young, usurping the role of the family in developing morals, accepted norms, and character in their children.

I'm not vouching for one or the other. Just saying neither side is the perfect alternative.

And here’s a good one about a great organization:
I'm sure there are great charter schools as well. Sounds like there a great ones in DC and NYC.

I’m not calling charters perfect by any means, just pointing out that the same argument against them (no interest in education, just wanting those taxpayer dollars) certainly apply to a lot of the public schools they would be replacing.
I just find it hard to argue in favor of keeping the same situation when we have years of history showing that certain schools are repeatedly blowing it and not fixing the problems.

Doesn’t sound like he taught anyone’s kids.

Nope. Every Orleans public school. Every one is under chatter. There isn't one NOLA public school ran directly by the board.

The pop up charters that I've seen in this state are failing.

You sure about that? Since when? If you’re correct then that just happened.

Just looked it up

The locally elected Orleans Parish School Board oversees 78 public schools, but it directly runs only two.

They directly run two but the type 1 & 3 charters LEA is the OPSB.
And not all are bad. Not even close.

They're polarizing in our household because this is the time of year my wife starts getting charter school rejects dumped in her public school classroom. Even more are dumped right before state testing. The ones around here dump all the trouble makers and dumb kids before they have to take the test.
Edit: ftr, I am generally pro-charter. My wife is not.
