Question about the super high end brands. How durable are they. Will you knock a Patek out of kilter by bumping into a door frame? And how difficult is getting them serviced. Can you get them worked on here or do you have to send them back to Switzerland and wait a year?
In general, the upper-tier brands can handle daily knocks without any more issue than an ETA. They don't have to be babied but if someone is a person that breaks crystals on a regular basis it might not be a smart idea. Cutting grass and doing DIY projects usually call for a beater but that is just common sense. The movements in Patek, AP and VC are in general as robust as an ETA, but that is a very general statement. They aren't going to equal a Richard Mille, Ball or Rolex for example but rarely does the average person need that.
Most service on anything but high complications can be accomplished stateside, as an example, Stern in NYC can take care of most service and repair for Patek. Wait times can be long (on the order or 4-6 months) stateside or going back to the fatherland but that is true for most brands these days. There are also independents that can do basic services on the less complicated movements.

Do you have a rec for a nato or anything other than leather for my 16800? I had Michael young do my bracelet and it’s amazing but the clasp is giving me some issues and it’s honestly starting to worry me. While I get this sorted out do you have a rec on a good alternative preferably with a deployment clasp?
I would get a Rubber B or Everest BUT they are only available with a tang or for using your Rolex deployant. If it was a newer Rolex I would say you could buy a non-branded copy but I don't think you can find one that would fit the band that fits the 16800.
I am really not the person to ask about NATOs and their variants, while I own a handful they just aren't for me so I don't keep up with who makes the good ones.
I still say try a Rubber B if you can deal with a tang, the watch wears so much differently. I was never a rubber fan until I got one for one of my Planet Oceans (the Omega rubber and deployant is great) and I honestly prefer it to the bracelet and have two on my POs on them.

My driver's assistants detailed has one. I'll check.

Send your watch to a Rolex Service Center and have them fix of replace your band and clasp.
That really isn't an option for him. Plus he has had the best in the world recondition his bracelet. The bracelet was better after leaving Classic Watch Repair than it was when it left Rolex over 30 years ago.

I am picky about showing my Daytonas on the internet for several reasons.
I know you said this 2.5 years ago, out of curiosity I’m just wondering why.

Online critics ahead of going to auction. Read in one of his previous posts.

Rolex says I have alot of money but know nothing about watches.
This reminds me of a article I read once
When you first learn about watches you think Rolexs are amazing, when you know a little more about watches you think they are overrated and when you learn a lot about watches you think they are amazing again

One they tend to be in the bank most of the time but I think they have been in at least one full collection picture I have posted here at some point.
It primarily is because of the my Spirit of Japan. It is a controversial variant that some will argue didn't come from Rolex that way. I might fall into that conspiracy trap outside of the way I got mine. There are VERY few pictures of them in the net because most of the owners know better. If you post a picture it will be picked apart constantly. For the market value it is better to just keep them under wraps until they hit the auction block. I doubt you will find a single picture of one that is not associated with a sale, even the ones in Rolex books are pictures from auctions. In the end all it takes is a group on WUS et al to decide they are redials etc to take a lot of wind out of the market.
Here is a picture of both variations from the unauthorized history of the Paul Newman Daytona.

Appreciate it. I think I’m going to give one of those a shot. I’ve been curious about the rubber ones for a while now and I’ll pull the trigger while I figure out if MY can fix this clasp or I need to hunt down a replacement.

You never wear it but have it “reconditioned” every 3-5 years? Seems like a strange thing to do. Maybe you should have the movement serviced if it doesn’t keep proper time. Odd scenario.
I stopped wearing it because the reconditioning costs. I did inquire many times about having the movement corrected. The answer I got... "If you have a Rolex, you shouldn't worry about 3-5 minutes a month". 3-5 minutes a month is a minor annoyance. However, 15 minutes after 3 months is a pain in the arse.

I only mentioned that when you said his clasp and bracelet were broken.

It’s not broken, I’m just having issues with the flip lock popping open and don’t want it falling off. I’m going to either buy another clasp or ship this one back to MY to get right again. Unfortunate the only way to buy a new 93150 clasp is with the entire bracelet from Rolex and they won’t fix the original.

Weird how the watch market is so flukey. Looking at one of the reseller sites and a plain steel submariner goes for more than a gold one. Plain submariners for as much or more than a deep sea submariner.

I've stopped trying to make any sense of it.

I've been on the fence for years if I want a more expensive watch. I've wanted a speedy pro for many years but now that I can get one, I'm not sure I want to spend that much. I'm an engineer and love the mechanical parts of high-end watches but at the end of the day, they are not as precise as digital or quartz that cost so much lower. However, I still have a want for the Speedys,IWC Portugieser, and Rolex Submariners. Purchased a Hamilton Khaki King a few years back that I wear but the constant resyncing of the watch is annoying if I don't wear it every single day. It also bothers me that a majority of the costs to these higher-end watches are simply paywalls and advertising.
The Omega x Swatch Moonswatch is interesting to me though.
