Anyone paying attention to my stupid watch trivia in my other 16800 post will recognize this is a Mk 1 dial due to the "normal" curvy S in Submariner.
The older subs being shown are an excellent testimonial to the answer to the OP's question of value. Despite having some years on them they are still doing their job, they have increased in value, tell a story with their Wabi-Sabi and are far cooler in many respects to the newest 6 digit reference Sub Cs. Just like the Porsche 911 the methodical evolutionary design cements the Sub as a now 65-year-old classic design.
Do you have any knowledge or experience with Michael Young restoring bands? Mines getting a little loose. The Rolex forums are mostly great reviews, but there are a few not so great ones. My band and clasp are old and could use some help.

My favorite is the bronze model.

You didn’t direct this at me. But I have had him do 5 bands for me. As a matter of fact I just received a 95160 back from him the other day. His work is top notch and I do not know of single place in the world that does the quality of work he does.
When the pins on a bracelet get worn the sides of the links start wearing into each other and there can be a lot of metal missing on the links. Michael can weld these corners up and polish them back out and make them look new again. Pretty amazing what he does for the price.
I was hesitant at first about sending stuff to Honk Kong and it going through customs but I have encountered zero problems with it.

Awesome thanks for the info. You've done the laser welding? I would need that on mine since some of the edges are worn. I was skeptical at first but leaning towards pulling the trigger.
Whats the typical turn around time?

Why not just buy a replacement Rolex band (bracelet is what they call it when it costs that much)? Is getting it repaired cheaper?

116234 Stainless steel Datejust with white gold fluted bezel and white dial
16610 Submariner Date with black dial in stainless steel
I love both of these watches. Rolex gets a bad rap from people that don't understand watches. The fact is, Rolex has some of the finest design and manufacturing of all time. For what you pay, you really get your moneys worth in form, function and resale value. Granted, they're no Patek, Vacheron, AP, Lange, etc. The craftsmanship those brands provide are second to none--and that's the reason you're talking about spending a minimum of $30,000.
I hope one day when the market softens I can pick up an AP Royal Oak Jumbo. And maybe before I die I'll be able to own a Patek, too. A guy can dream...

Refurbishing is cheaper. These bracelets/band can get pretty pricey. Also, for a vintage model, i prefer to keep the original intact if possible. First for resale, but also just for nostalgia. Thats the great thing about these watches, they can last forever if they're properly maintained.

You've done the laser welding?
Yes, the last bracelet I sent in had to be welded. Cost $150 for the welding. Looked brand new when I got it back.
I mailed mine out Nov. 17 and it was returned Dec. 21. The post office said it would take 1-1/2. weeks to get there. But when he mailed it back FedEx he shipped on Dec 20 and it was at my house Dec 21 before lunch. Crazy how that worked.
When you send him something he will look it over and send you an email if there is any additional work that should be done. Some of the videos on the work he does are incredible.
The bands I was most impressed with that he did for me were the folded link bracelets. He took every link apart and put in new pins. Rolex would not even attempt that. They wanted to sell me a new band for $1300.

For all I know, that watch you're wearing was won out of a Chuck E Cheese claw machine.
Oyster perpetual datejust checking in. Sorry to bust your bubble buddy. People notice rolex's

While it has clearly been covered to your satisfaction I have had one bracelet and two cases repaired by Classic Watch Repair. The only issue is the stress of shipping to and from HK the work is impeccable. His bracelet work is near magic but the case work blew me away. He did the laser welding on the case and I simply can't find where the repairs were done.
When I sent mine he offered uninsured shipment back via Fed Ex and insured shipment via EMS, I used EMS for the cases and Fed Ex for the bracelets since a vintage case alone would be damn hard to find without spending a fortune.
Speaking of HK if you ever get to visit there the used (and new) watch shopping there is world-class. The quality, quantity, and variety almost overwhelming. Just the Seiko selection is epic. I saw far more Pateks there than in NYC or anywhere in Europe outside of the Patek Museum.

What do you think about the Breitling Transocean?

Thanks for the info. That makes me feel better about shipping it to the other side of the planet. I hadn't heard that he did the same work on cases. Mines in pretty good shape, but nice to know if something happens i have an option. I'm hoping he can do something with the clasp. It's in pretty rough shape form being over polished and beat to death from daily use.

Broke is probably the person here to ask about B-ling. It is one of the brands I know least about, I doubt I have held over 10 of them.
I think the Transocean line is out of production now. That said I liked the look of the chronograph models just fine but they are a little bulky to some.
If I were looking at the current B-ling catalog I like the Premier chronographs and the Superocean Heritage II in 42mm for more of a sports watch.

Any other suggestions for a chrono?
Posted on 12/27/19 at 3:50 pm to Boston911
Never wanted one, don't wear watches.
When i was in High school, i always wanted a Movado watch. The Black face, with black strap, it was a sharp watch, but since i don't wear one, never bought one.

This threads are funny, I always go off and find something I’ve never seen.
Case in point, this Air Command:
What is that?

Michael's shop is pretty much a one-stop-shop for restoration. They do movements, dials, cases, hands, bracelets you name it. Maybe some of the US guys have caught up in laser welding now but CWR has been great at it for a while. I can't begin to explain how it can be done and you can't find the repair, you would almost swear it is a different case.

The broken record answer to a sporty chrono is a Speedmaster Professional. Even if the Speedy Pro doesn't do it for you almost certainly something in the Speedmaster line will.
The Daytona is always a good albeit expensive options.
You should also look at the Tudor chronos especially the Black Bay and the Heritage Chrono.
For something visually different the Tag Monaco.
Note I am not knocking Breitling they just aren't my jam.
