Most communists and marxists don't so that is not surprising.

I'm just here laying out the fact that artists have the freedom to speak, associate, and contract just as you and I do, and that exercising any of them in opposition to someone else's speech is not in any way counter to the principle of free speech. If you think that makes me a "communist" then L O fricking L.

Meanwhile those freedom-loving conservatives in Texas are banning books.

Go ahead, it is absolutely your right to oppose what I'm saying and to use your voice to tone me down. Free speech!

dbeck gets it!

That’s comical.

They sure are showing Spotify.

Rogan is by far the most listened to person on there.

I just think it’s pathetic that an artist would let someone else bother them that much that they think pulling theor music is gonna actually do something

Today I learned that Bob Dylan sold his catalog to Universal for $400 million and his masters to Sony for $200 million. In the last 13 months.

That old mother fricker is worth $500 million now.

Good for him.

I had no idea old washed up "frick the man frick capitalism frick conformity" singers were compensated so well.

I guess that explains why they get on their knees to suck the dick of Wall Street and Washington DC.

Kinda makes you wonder if there is any authenticity left in the arts.

They are not pulling their music to express themselves they are pulling their music in an effort to manipulate a company/country to suppress someone else's voice they disagree with.

Someone has to be really dense to see this any other way.

So you're choosing freedom of speech by "canceling" the band who is exercising their freedom of speech?

That's not what "canceling" means...

They have freedom of speech to say that they don't think Joe Rogan should be on Spotify and they are making a statement by pulling their music off of it.

You have the freedom of speech to say you don't agree with what they are doing, but you can't deny the fact they have freedom of speech to do what they are doing.

No one is telling the people who are pulling their music that "they either stay or else!". Spotify and Rogan are absolutely being told "or else!".

You're trying to equate two things that are not the same.

Again you are confusing the Tennesee curriculum ban of Maus from the Texas removal of books from the library. Both can legitimately use the word "ban" as long as there is concurrent text that explains the nature of each prohibition.

I think there is a fair argument in both cases on both sides as to the age appropriateness of the books. That is an age-old and I feel appropriate niche of the greater concept of censorship. That does then beg the question of who makes the decisions.
