Certain soaps can damage your clear coat. It takes a lot of time and effort to keep your cars clean, not that you’d know. It would annoy the shite out of me if my truck was freshly washed and waxed and some queers were blowing bubbles all over it.

Washing your car: important maintenance

Blowing bubbles all over a neighborhood: gay and annoying

The homeowner is street parking a Porche just steps away from Lower Decatur, i.e. homeless and gutter punk central at night. I guarantee he's going to end up having issues parking a luxury vehicle that stands out so close to that area and likely sooner rather than later now that he's drawn attention to himself with this argument. He's going to look back at the days of dried soap bubbles on his car as the Golden Age.

Outside the bar on the balcony

Who owns the land under the balcony? Some balconies are above land they do not own.

So if it’s decided that they violated some ordinance or need a permit for this, will a governing body just say, “well you’ve been doing it this long so we are just going to let you keep going” ?

The news story I saw said that the homeowner reached out to the Vieux Carré Commission and the commission issued a statement that the bar owner isn't breaking any of its rules or ordinances and that they are staying out of it. So from that perspective it doesn't appear that the bar owner is doing anything illegal or wrong (maybe the courts will decide otherwise if the homeowner follows up with his threat of legal action).

For what it's worth, bubble machines on balconies is a pretty common occurrence throughout the French Quarter and not just on bar balconies, but on private ones as well. To my knowledge no one has ever publicly complained about them prior to this VP. I actually know someone (a friend of a friend of a friend) who owns one of the balconies in the immediate vicinity of MRB and have sat out there before when the machine was going and it never occurred to me that anyone would be annoyed by it. Bubbles floating around in the air is a fairly ubiquitous part of the Quarter experience on weekend days and especially during big event weekends.

If bubbles are really going to chap the VP's arse this hard then I'm not sure that Quarter living is going to be for him.

LOL And entire block being devalued because of one small bubble machine?

No. But I was responding to “I wouldn’t buy there”. That’s how markets work

Sounds similar to the NIMBYs who sued to try to keep Top Golf out of one of the malls here in Louisville who had vacant space. Bitched about traffic and "light pollution" when it was going in a literal, huge arse shopping mall.

He'll have to prove that it's more than common soap and water and then prove that the extra substances have caused significant damage to his vehicle, home and dainty little drink.

A quick google search will show results saying that certain kinds of soap (detergents and dish soap specifically) can be damaging to a vehicle's paint and clear coat, especially if its allowed to dry.

There are plenty of neighborhoods in this country where you can bitch about weirdos and bubbles and whine about to your HOA.

The French Quarter isn’t one of them.

Don’t move to the French Quarter and complain about music or bubbles.

It’s the French Quarter, not anywhere USA.

If you don’t understand the vibe, don’t move there. This all the more infuriating, because based on this douchebag’s job, he definitely knows the French Quarter.

The pigeons that eat the crumbs around his establishment shite on cars too.

frick this guy.

Not for long I'd wager.

The call for Jihad has gone out in the Quarter, 7th Ward, Marigny and Bywater. The bubbles will flow.

You know, you finally start a halfway decent thread with a lot of good replies and you keep bumping it your same dumbass replies.

Add something of intelligence and stop embarrassing yourself.

In all fairness, soap drying on your car in 105 degree sun would likely ruin the paint.

If the street is public and that spot is not owned by the homeowner, he should probably park elsewhere.

If the bubbles are damaging his home or have potential to damage it, that's another issue. This home has been there the entire time the bubbles have been bubbling. I would assume if they would cause any damage, that would have happened by now.

I wouldn't want to live there and have bubbles floating around all the time, but there hasn't been anything I've seen so far that gives him grounds to stop them from having the bubbles.

Is it reasonable to have a bubble machine outside your property that causes issues on other peoples property?

I don't think it matters, but the only way he gets car damage is when he parks on the public street. The amount of bubbles on his building isn't damaging anything.

Regardless, the homeowner shouldn't need to be involved. If the city/French Quarter ordinance allows it, he is fricked. If its not allowed, the bubbly gay bubble bar boy is fricked.

Ironically enough, the bar and homeowner are within a hundred feet of Cafe du Monde. Their table tops must like Cafe du Pablo Escobar.
