Meh, traffic is awful in every large city. The difference is that people up there actually know how to fricking drive.

After living in BR, Houston and Atlanta, my daily commute in Chicago was a pleasure lmao

Grew up in the Buffalo Grove area, nice place but quite expensive.

There's also public transit.

You likely won’t choose to live in Elgin.

I’d suggest looking in St. Charles/Batavia or Algonquin/Cary/Crystal Lake areas.

Elgin is where my job would be. I wouldn't have to deal with Chicago itself on a daily basis.

The tri-cities (at Charles, Geneva, and Batavia) are very nice. They were established towns when the suburbs sort of grew into them.

The Metra line and the hospital are in Geneva, but St Charles is the most populated of the three. They all have very nice downtowns with some very good restaurants. They are all very safe with excellent schools and parks. You can be in an older, small town setting near the river or a newer, larger estate home west of Randal Road, which is the big retail corridor that leads into Elgin to the north and Aurora to the south. I think Accenture’s big corporate training facility is in St Charles on the west bank of the river.

Campton Hills is another option - west of Geneva and St Charles. South Elgin is also a good option, but not much character.

I’m from Carpentersville/Elgin. Graduate of Dundee Crown (aka Dundee Crime) high school. Where is your job in Elgin. Also, how good is your Spanish?

Disagree on this one. Not only is the city loaded with good looking women, they're midwesterners who are generally low maintenance and love to get after it.

I believe OP said he's recently divorced.

Also, I will qualify my statement with "the women IN CHICAGO are like that". When you get into the burbs it can get pretty slim pickings, because they're all married, or trashy because they're trashy women.

That's been my experience as a sometimes visitor -- Chicago drivers are actually pretty nice, and will try to cut everybody slack when they can. It's just there's too many on the road.

For Elgin the old Cadillac Ranch was always a good hunting ground, I think it’s called something else now.

My parents lived off of Irving Park Rd in Elgin when I was in the Navy. I remember coming home one time when I was stationed at Pearl Harbor. It was Hawaiian night and everyone was making fun of “not dressing Hawaiian” ... except I had a Hawaiian drivers license and everything I was wearing was actually bought in Hawaii. Was able to to play off of that and get a quick Lewinsky off a side road in Rte 20.

If you think the women in the wealthy suburbs of Chicago are ugly I don’t know what to tell you other than you might want to check again.

There are definitely beautiful women in that area, they just tend to be super high maintenance so buyer beware.

Elgin itself is pretty working- and middle-class, but there are some fabulous golf courses there if you’re into the sport.

St. Charles, Naperville, Aurora, Barrington, Arlington Heights, Libertyville, and much of the rest of the nearby towns are all pretty nice. Very suburban-y and bedroom communities, but nice.
