Specifically the burbs NW of the city...strong possibility I'm relocated there. Where do I want to live?

Southern lake county is great. Depends on how far out from the city you want to live and how much you want to spend for housing.

But Lincolnshire/bannockburn/Deerfield are great options. Highland park and lake forest are really nice too but pretty pricey

I've always liked the sound of Garfield.

It all depends on budget and where your job is located.

Chicago traffic is AWFUL.

Might want to find a location that also doesn’t make you drive through shady portions. Just in case you have to spend an all nighter at work or something.

I used to drive between Memphis and Milwaukee once a month and I’ve been in gridlocked Chicago traffic at 3:30 in the morning.

You’d figure all these Louisiana Cubs fans would be familiar with the city. Guess not.

I grew up in Lake County, lived in the city for a number of years after college, and now live in Oak Park right outside of the city.

There are a lot of great places to live in the NW burbs, but that's a pretty broad definition. What town(s) are you considering?

Some of those burbs out that way have some character to them, and most have a metra stop so you can get into the city pretty easily. Des Plaines, Mt. Prospect, and Arlington Heighs are decent.

ETA, that Metra Northwest line drops you in the parking lot for Arlington Park, and you can drink on the train. Great way to spend a Saturday.

Elgin is where my job would be. I wouldn't have to deal with Chicago itself on a daily basis.

Well I'd be working in Elgin. What is that area like?

Can you be more specific? Between the city and O'Hare? You want to be near the Blue Line?

*ETA - Just saw your post right above.

I'm not terribly familiar with the suburbs that far out of the city. I've been to Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove and Schaumburg.

It would depend on whether you have children and need to worry about schools, as well.

South side where Al Capone once lived seems to be a great area now.

Elgin is kind of a sh*thole but there are a lot of nice areas around it or within a few train stops. I would look at St. Charles

Honestly I've heard lots of great things about Chicago and I look forward to it if given the opportunity. I could use a change in scenery. I've lived in NYC, southern California, and Denver before moving back to NWA.
