My belief is that going to church doesn't make you a good Christian and not going to church as much as someone else doesn't make you a bad Christian.

Orrr, the sanity behind "believe what I believe because it's the greatest love and life that you could ever encounter."

Do you understand the insanity behind teaching people to "believe what I believe or you're going to a place where you will burn for eternity with the devil?"

It's not "what I believe", it's what the Bible teaches.

I'll play. So you work on Sunday mornings and evenings, and also on Wednesday nights? If you truly wanted to go to church you could, and imo if you know Jesus and believe he is who he says he is then I think you're heaven bound according to the Bible.

I work 24 hour shifts

You need a church because you need to worship and fellowship with others that share your faith. The Christian faith is not meant to be done all by yourself.

Well I'm not being ignorant willfully but I'll admit to being ignorant. Can you answer the question?

Definitely seemed tacky to me, especially since my boss is at his aunt' funeral today.

That's silly. The preacher wasn't talking about situations like that. Geez.

Bayoumuscle actually did a pretty good job of this already. If you truly believe that Jesus is who He says He is and you believe in His death and resurrection (and the purpose of those events), you're good. That doesn't mean you should ignore the purpose of church altogether.

I see your point and don't disagree. I know it sounds weird but I don't struggle with my faith, but I do with church. Once I started working my career and wasn't available on many sundays and Wednesdays I kinda fell out of the loop. Sometimes when I work saturdays and get off Sunday mornings I feel too tired to go. Not a good excuse at all. We do read bible and pray at my house, but know we could do more.

Then he was probably at a church.

Big difference between being at a different house of worship and blowing God off for the playoffs or sleeping off a hangover.

The Catholic Church celebrates the Mass every day in just about every church out there, unless it's in a part of the country where there aren't many priests.

I think that's fair. I'm not trying to call you out for not going. People have their reasons. I've been working two jobs on and off for the last 12 years, with the second being primarily evenings and late (LATE) weekends. I've skipped a few Sunday mornings, too. That said, I do think it's still important to recognize the role of fellowship and accountability in your faith; plus, I also teach youth at my church and I can tell you, taking on that responsibility will make you grow more than you can imagine. You miss out on that when you aren't there, but it doesn't make you any less "saved". Still, you'll always feel "out of the loop" if you never make the effort to get back in it.

Caretaker duties are considered a valid reason. So if you're a doctor or nurse, for example, it's OK. The question to ask yourself on a weekend you don't attend is "What was so important that I couldn't give one hour?"

For Catholics, caring for the infirm is an officially recognized "good" reason.

Religion= hypocrisy

No, it isn't. Religion is a belief system. Hypocrisy is virtue intended for public consumption.

A person who attends Mass so everyone sees that he attends Mass is a hypocrite. So is anyone who engages in virtue signalling in a secular venue.
