It could be a cult like islam where people are required to pray 5 times a day (down from the original 50) or be cast into hellfire or killed for not being islam enough.

Hell they'll cane you in the street straight into the mosque.

Maybe, maybe not. A lot of priests went to the seminary later in life. Some were frat boy jerks or even juvenile delinquents they were young, and we know because they're open about their past.

Yep happened to me this morning. I just shook his hand and said, "see you at Christmas".

Our church had a play this morning and we had a great crowd of visitors. The actors did a great job of putting on the play and in welcoming the visitors.

I'm 29 and haven't been to church in 5 years, except for weddings. I'm not atheist - probably more along the lines of hopeful agnostic.

I just eventually got so sick of the hypocrisy and the petty arguing that goes on between religions.

Exactly. Also, I'd rather be out surfing thinking about God than in church thinking about surfing.

Attendance is voluntary which makes it a moderate religion.

It's voluntary in the sense that the Church doesn't force you to do it, but the Bible does say to not forsake the assembly.

Out of context. It is saying not to pray in public in order to show everyone how religious you are.

The Bible also says when you get together, to pray like this: "Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed...".

Our church serves multiple purposes. One is to build up and nourish the body of believers by corporate worship and teaching. Another is to reach the lost and care for the needy, among others. My church welcomes newcomers and also those who come twice a year. However, we do encourage regular attendance as it is an essential part of building up the believer.

People watch mega churches on tv and that's where they get the idea that all churches are just for profiting off of tithes and offerings. My church, like most, only asks for offerings from the established member, but even then the church body itself has oversight into the appropriation of those funds. The staff salaries are open to see. If you think church funds are being used inappropriately, you can easily raise that issue during regular meetings. Not every church is like Chevy Chase in "Fletch."

Then, we got a new priest and it all went to shite. Judging people for not coming to Church or sitting in the back because it's packed. Has this I'm smarter than you attitude that rubs people wrong. Changed the church inside and out, spending all that $$$ to make it look like a cathedral and less on the kids/education

Remember, these things happen over time. Every church is made up of flawed people. Don't let the mistakes of other human beings keep you from experiencing a genuine relationship with God.

If you haven't found the right church, keep looking. It's out there. I'm not big on those that belittle irregular attendees or push tithes, etc, either. There are plenty that don't do this.

And yes, Jesus did attend church. Luke 4:16. He's the example set for us, so it's rather difficult to reconcile not going, as someone already said.

Or what? The Bible says all kinds of sick shite in it. I'm curious what the punishment is for this. They liked to stone people and crush their genitals back then so I'm wondering where this one falls.

Obviously you don't believe so there is no point discussing this with you.
