Who is the national market for $80k suv's?

There is a market for everything these days. That baby is mint.
I've got news for you, even "minty" 20 year old vehicles can have 20 year old car problems.
Oil leaks, coolant leaks, plastic parts, rubber parts, and wiring harnesses become brittle with age and time, refrigerant o rings dry up and start to leak also.
Mileage isn't the only metric, time is the enemy for seals and leaks...
And as you said 120k isn't a lot for 20 years so the truck has done a fair amount of sitting around not being used so that is not good either.

just seems like an outrageous price.
And homes have jumped a 100 grand
Yet we can't get people to work...
Its crazy and makes no sense

Not for us, but it’s the official mom vehicle of the dance school my 3 year old goes to

When will the vehicle bubble hit like the housing market. 80% of people can’t afford their vehicles but they give them 10 year notes now

Again, the point being that the market is artificially inflated when <5% of the market can afford a vehicle and yet well above that are purchasing it.
You know how you help that a little. Go back to requiring 20% down on all loans. House, cars, whatever. If you cannot save up at least 20% of the cost you can’t afford it.

I agree with you.
Sometime in the future, there’s going to be a lot of repo’d SUVs for sale at great prices. Housing and autos are in a bubble right now, but the chip shortage may artificially prolong the crazy valuations we’re seeing today.

People want what they want and can afford it.
I spend a fair amount of time behind the wheel, and there’s a pretty big difference between a Volvo and a Hyundai.

Car notes are a good way to stay poor.
while cash is always an option,
some of us qualify for 0% financing
some if not most of those high dollar vehicles are leases
I agree with you though
anyone that spends more than 25-30 on a vehicle is either wealthy or in debt up to their ball bag…

I’ll either keep my current car and give it to my kid for him to drive or get him some beater. Beaters are like $30k these days though so hopefully the market is t this crazy when he’s ready for a car.
I'll die on this hill, but anyone who keeps spending money on new cars is a sucker.
Get one, ride it till it dies, move on.
They all have 4 wheels and get you where you need to go.

Cost of living differences comes into play but it’s not as bad of a measure as you are making it out to be.
Using percentiles ignores so many factors as to be useless.
Hell, technically, you could have a nation of all poor people with a few rich people. Would you call the middle percentiles "middle class"?
You could have an exceptionally wealthy nation with virtually zero poor people. Would you still call the bottom 20% "poor"?
Percentiles are stupid when applied to this task. It causes you to do dumb things like use the same word (rich) for a household making $350K annually as you use for an NFL starting Quarterback, or Fortune 500 CEO.

Honestly, if you’re a 2 income college-educated household older than like 35 and aren’t bringing home $250,
What jobs are paying $125? I’m not married but my ex was an RN, they don’t make near that in Louisiana. More like 50-60k. Meaning I’d have to be making close to 200k.

Can I just point out that with inflation rearing its ugly head and the government planning to print even MORE money, it is quite possibly that an 80K SUV bought today at low rates is a bargain.

There are several in my hood.
And I saw an Aston Martin dbx in the school pickup line. Those are typically $250k

Every poor bastard that wears nomex everyday and works every ounce of available OT while his wife sits at home eating Cheetos.

ruth be told, I'd like to get a new truck myself. But with the current state of the market, I will be taking my car in to the shop next week to get work done in order to hang on to it for another year or two. Or at least until dealers are asking $10k above sticker.
I have a 2010 Accord and it’s getting to the point where I feel a major repair is on the horizon. Normally, I’d be looking around for a possible replacement but I’m not paying these prices unless I absolutely have too. So, I assume a large repair bill is my future.

They’re everywhere on the Northshore. I thought the typical rule of thumb was price of car should be less than 25% of your yearly salary. Average salary here must be around $320k

I have really never understood this.
I could afford much nicer/more expensive vehicles, but it makes more sense to have a better house, in a better neighborhood and sensible car/SUV that your not paying insane amounts for.

me translate slowly. If you pay for the car in one transaction up front then you can afford it. If you think you can swing a monthly note, but you can't pay for it outright, then you can't afford
Cars depreciate no matter if you pay cash or finance... rich people lease very expensive cars...and they could pay cash but why part with your money? It all depends on your income and cash and the need in front of you.
Pay cash for a cheap car then have car problems? Is it worth the stress and time?
When Joe Biden is your president and supply chain a mess used car values go up.
My son's 2016 camry is worth 4k more than we paid for it...16 months ago
That never happens...
