I have some wrangler cargo shorts that are kind of short and are super comfy when I'm hiking/fishing/working in the yard. I keep my pliers/cutters in them and also extra mags if I'm in a sketchy neighborhood.

I wear them for hiking, as does every hiker I know. Much easier than carrying a backpack on day hikes. No apologies because I’m a grown man and don’t really care what the hell fashionistas snicker about.

Your statement saying you wear cargo shorts, just not to church, or dinner....made it seem as though you wear regular shorts to Church or dinner. Since wearing shorts to dinner is perfectly acceptable in many settings, that's how I interpreted it.

I have shown up to places in my younger days over and underdressed. So, it's kind of a phobia of mine to not be dressed appropriate for the event or setting.

OP sounds like an above knee fig shorts wearer. Some of us need longer, thicker materialed shorts to hide our OT sized junk. Athletic shorts and flat front pants are out of the question. Clearly for others like the OP, that’s not a concern.
