The creation of St George would destroy BRMHS

Biggest reason I am against it .. It's a great idea being executed by the wrong people .. These supposed, self-appointed community leaders and "shakers" have NO clue how to fund this idea .. The sales and use tax is there, to a degree, but they are sweeping the fact that property taxes will explode under the rug ..

This could really be a possibility. I don't want BR to turn into Detroit.

I'll take the property tax increase if it means my future kids can go to schools that don't cost me thousands of dollars per year. Fair trade IMO.

Yep. These hardcore St. Georgers win, they are in for a rude awakening. I'd feel sorry for the good people that live in the area and aren't interested in the movement, yet will only see a massive tax increase.

Some of the ones jumping up and down for it and the new schools won't be able to afford to pay the taxes needed to support their kids.
What is the thought process behind this post. I am interested in learning more.

Yup. They'd see TX property tax rates while still paying state income taxes.
And all those businesses would just setup shop in BR or AP where the property taxes were significantly less.

You may be looking at $5K plus jack ups in property taxes .. Pretty much a private school tuition ..

I think most people don't really have an idea what it would cost just for a new district much less a new city.
frick then please enlighten us with your brilliance on what it takes to start a new city. I love statements like this with no fricking explanation.

Why cant these parents just keep sending your kids to catholic high, st joes, st judes etc. These people are snobby and racist! You create a new city so your kid doesn't mix with little black, Asian, and Hispanics!!

One of my kids was denied entry into BRMHS because he was white. His scores were very high, but as a counselor there told me, "We have our quota of white kids. Let him try entry next year."
See this is the kind of fear mongering stupid shite that makes me realize some people are just an absolute waste of oxygen.
And the sad thing is I'm sure some of these rocket scientist will believe you.

I'm against.. Live in BR proper.. I wish the adults in BR government would actually come out and discuss the real issues and work towards a solution instead of antagonizing the opposition.. I also wish the "leaders" of the st George movement would be honest and realistic.. Taxes will go up.. You won't get to keep the mall/bluebonnet retail district/ Perkins Rowe and it will not be an easy fix

Yes. They will be disappointed with such a better life and higher living standard. You will have to convince them their lives suck because things will be that much better. It's hard to convince a man the gold bar is really a brick of shite. You live in your brick of shite and I'll live in my gold bar.

Vehemently on every ground why one could be against such a horribly conceived idea.
Posted on 2/10/14 at 8:44 pm to kyledavis
You'd need money to fund schools, law enforcement, sewage, water, roads, etc. .. along with other intangible infrastructure .. A city ain't cheap .. Especially funding it with less than 125,000 taxpayers ..

against St. George. I don't want the town I grew up in to split up and turn to Detroit.
Why can't it turn into L.A.?

Why can't they just have their own school district? Isn't that the main reason they want to leave?
The main reason? Yes. The only reason? No.
People for St. George also want a more conservative government. That's something you will never get from the Dems running BR.

I'd challenge you to take a look at the regional nature of the BR metro and commute distances, times, etc.
St. George isn't surviving off of those 100k in the city and there aren't enough jobs for them in that area either.
