Sorry for your loss, bud. Glad you were there for him at the end. My only suggestion would be to get another dog, but that's obviously up to how you feel about it. Hope it gets easier.

Wait, Maggie is dead?

When did that happen?

You were talking about her in the present tense a day or two ago.

No. It was Maui, our older Lhasa Apso.

I thought about getting another dog but I feel like that would be disrespectful to Harley. My only concern with a new dog is my son wondering where Harley is. I keep telling him that he's gone (dead), but he's 3 and obviously doesn't understand. I think I want a Golden. Something that doesn't look like Harley exactly, but will be a good dog for the family.

I'm not gonna wanna be around myself when that day finally comes. I hate opening these threads, and very rarely do, but wish you the best man. That was a good looking dog

I'm sorry for your loss.

I have a deal with my dog, he is never allowed to pass away. He has been my best friend for almost 7 years now, good news is chihuahuas tend to live long and he has no issues.

Thanks, man! I figured I would be in my 40s before I had to hide my tears.

Sorry for your loss. Your dog was beautiful. Yes, we've dealt with it.Our golden, Sophie, had to be put down in November. She was 13.5 and had been on the downhill slide for some time.

It was hard, but not nearly as hard as when Teddy died. Teddy went missing for three weeks. He was a golden, too, and was almost 13. We thought he got out, which he occasionally did, but we were concerned that he was confused and couldn't find his way back because he was getting to that stage. We searched so hard for three weeks, scouring the neighborhood, posting fliers, taking out an ad in the paper. Going to other neighborhoods. In the end, we discovered that Teddy had found a very secluded spot in our back yard, behind a big fallen limb which was close to our fence. He went there and died and we didn't know until our neighbor smelled something bad and came to tell us that he thought he knew where Teddy was.

I was crushed. What if we could've saved him if we'd actually LOOKED in every part of the yard instead of calling his name repeatedly? My husband had mowed the back yard several times during that period and never saw him. Ugh. We felt like terrible dog parents. But we were happy to at least know what where he was. The thought of him being missing and never knowing what happened was killer.

Our other golden grieved for a full year. They'd been inseperable. In fact, Sophie was more like Teddy's dog than ours.

My black lab that hunted with me for 8 years and rode everywhere with me, even to work, got hit on Jefferson Highway. A lady stopped, took his collar and called me. I was a mile away and he was still warm when I got to him. I cried more that day than probably any other time.

My kid has a blind poodle named Pin Ball. She moves the furniture around every few days just to keep her on her toes.

Put a few great dogs down to ease their misery.... It's never been easy, but it is what it is.... The next one kinda makes you forget a bit, get another one & move on.

I have absolutely experienced the loss of a dog before. Had one ran over right in front of me in my driveway when I was a kid. So I know how you feel. But why are you blaming the driver of the car? There is not much you can do if a dog suddenly runs out into the road. And if the guy was a horrible person he would have kept on driving instead of at least stopping to bring the dog to you.

I hate that for you. It is like losing a family member. I had a 17 year old dog that was blind and he fell in the pool on the day of the LSU/BAMA game several years ago and it was awful. I think of him every time a see the pool. Sorry you had to go through that!

He was speeding in a blind curve. I know it's my fault ultimately because it was my dog and he should have been in the backyard, but it's easy to blame the guy that decided to drink and get behind the wheel.

But he stopped and brought the dog to your house. Drunk or not the dog got out from an open gate, same as mine and I didn't blame the driver.

And don't blame the kid either. It's an accident. A tragic one but an accident still.
