Who here had their own phone line as a kid?

I remember a few friends (the rich ones) got their own phone line in middle school/high school. It was so cool being able to call and not have to talk to their parents.

When I was growing up we were on a four-party line.

We had two, but neither was "mine". One was for the computer that my father's company paid for, and the other was the main line.

I did and I called Cleo on a dare. She was pretty good. She predicted I would hang up the phone. I did.

Got one in high school. My friends loved it because they could say they were staying at my place and go do whatever they wanted. Since I had a different last name than my parents, their parents couldn't look up the number.

We moved To Arkansas from California in 1981 and my parents built a house on a parcel of my grandparents land, I remember my dad having to hassle the phone company over having the first private line in the little town we lived in. Every one else was on a party line, and no we never got a second phone line.

We had separate lines for upstairs and downstairs

We had this deal where my sister and I had our own numbers, and the phone would do a different ring for each number. Basically a family party line. One thing I remember about it was that we would sometimes hear a little squeak sound from the phone about three seconds before it would ring. It started doing that after the new phone lines.

Cell phones didn't really exist when I was a kid. The big bag phones did I guess. I don't think I had one until I graduated college.
ETA - You are talking about land lines. Hell no. My dad would have laughed at the idea.

We didn’t have cells in the 70’s, just rotary house phones.

I had one. Was nice not having to stretch the cord around into a separate room to whisper to "my girl". My parents kinda forgot about it once I moved out and finally realized and dropped the line about 10 years ago. I was in my late 30's.
