Would a Gov’t shutdown be the worst result with Biden ordering all the extra spending prior to leaving office?

A shutdown might even prevent the sale of the wall material.

Do it.

General Smallwood. Great x 3 grandfather. On Washingtons personal staff. His portrait hangs in the Capital Rotunda.

Fortunately, I did not inherit the “Smallwood”.
TLDR Summary at the end…but:

I am an infrequent poster, but this one struck a nerve.

I spent 12+ years at a company, with the last 5 feeling the same as you do.

The company I used to work for had me by the “balls” because I was earning a defined benefit pension.

They knew they had me, and made my life miserable by design because they felt I would not leave because of the financial incentive to stay. As a result, bonuses and raises tapered off, despite the fact that I provided significant value to the company.

However, while this was happening, I attributed their “frickery” to “maybe I just lost my motivation” and that I “should work even harder”.

I left for new a new Company that values my contribution, and WOW, I didn’t realize how bad things were with Company #1.

I mention all of this because if u r in a bad situation, there is a chance it has zero to do with you.

TLDR Version: Waited to quit one company because they had me by the “balls” only to find out the grass was way way greener out there. Trust your instincts and yourself and no one else.

Also not a Boomer. But born in 1965 so close…

I won’t willingly spend totally disposable income on Chinese stolen IP when I can buy quality American equipment for a mere hundred dollars or so more. I find it astonishing and sad that American men willingly support the PLA with their dollars like this. If you buy this shite don’t say a word about Biden being owned by china or the next spy balloon when it comes over because you are funding it.

Most well said post. Ever.
Thanks Odysseus32. I missed the A vs. I…

My reading comprehension is off…
I read the article. What am I missing?

quote:

The researchers found those with a higher overall intake of nitrites - specifically from food additives - had a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes

Then the next sentence:
quote:

There was no association with nitrates and type 2 diabetes risk.
Moving Atlanteans Rapidly Throughout Atlanta?

Incredibly wrong. Pontoons and personal boats, no, there is no issue. Larger vessels and yachts, there is absolutely a haul out clause.

I have to say, this has become an interesting conversation and I am appreciative of the discussion.

In my past experience, we owned a 42’ powerboat in the Clear Lake area of TX and haul out was NOT a provision of the policy we signed. If I had agreed to that provision, perhaps my premium would have been much lower?

Up North, winter haul outs are much more common, and I assume that is driven by the insurance industry due to the higher premiums they would charge should one choose to NOT haul out (I.e. ice damage).

However, in Clear Lake, and I mention this only for scale, the number of sailboats here (unsure about powerboats) is second in number only to San Diego. But there are almost no haul out facilities here.

While winter freeze is a known and yearly hazard, hurricanes are not necessarily the same.

I guess what I’m saying, is the the insurance providers build in all these factors into the policy you buy.

However, taking to open sea to save a boat could never, in my opinion, be written into a policy to assure payment because of the additional risk it would present to the insurance company (I.e. not just a lost boat, but also a list life).

quote:

Yes, it’s delay, delay, delay. Then they will dangle a check in front of you in hopes that you will be so desperate that you almost have to take it, or you are so tired of dealing with their bs that you just say eff it, give me the check. Then they win. They got you to take less, and meanwhile they profited off your money they were holding, because the money was still in their account, working for them.

Bravo 9Rocket. That is how all the “formulas” regarding the risk they were assuming and the commensurate premiums they collected since the policies inception make their “deal” become even more profitable on the backend.

To me, the hassle on the backend is the real insidious part of the insurance game. At a time when a person is at their weakest, let’s push them harder in hopes they go away.

Hurricane Ike as well as a totaled auto claim taught me that lesson…
quote:

You better believe that those policies have hurricane clauses that require the owners take reasonable efforts to protect the vessel. Some will even compensate you for moving the boat out of the path.

I’m sorry but insurance companies ask where the boat will be moored, is it a fixed or floating dock, does the marina meet (design standard which I do not recall) among many other questions. Your answers set the risk they can expect, and therefore the premium due.

At NO point do they ask: will you move the boat out of harms way or require you to do so to obtain “coverage”.

Think about the additional risk the insurance company would assume by forcing you, or a hired captain, to move a boat while a storm is bearing down and potentially both the yacht and captain end up lost.

A jury would love to get their hands on that case….
This guy also gets it. Risking life for a boat is a no go. That’s what we pay the insurance premiums for…
[jquote]If you can’t trailer your boat it’s really not that far of a drive to appalachicola. Then just 2-3 hours more east to be extra safe. And if you can’t do it easily or your boat is too big, then hire a captain or you have a captain. [/quote]

Looooong time lurker. Felt compelled to sign in to post.

So, send a captain out into the gulf while a CAT 4 is bearing down just to perhaps save money for the insurance company?

Sure…risk a life for that.

There is a whole Band of Brothers episode (if he was at Berchestgaden) shows Easy company of the 506th PIR occupied the place.

Great find!

Own a 90yr old building in Dallas. Just completed a major renovation that included new storefront glass and walls. I requested my contractor use security glass. As in glass with embedded metal filaments that will stay in one piece if hit with rocks, hammer, etc.

My contractor laughed and said building code is for safety glass that fractures so no one gets cut. But if you use a safety glass punch tool ($12) entry is in less than a second.

At the time I figured it was to protect a customer who accidentally broke the window so he would be protected from harm. Then after two smash and grabs, 3M security film on the inside did the trick.

I guess in light of recent events, building codes are there to protect normal people from accidents. But it sure did make it easier for burglars in my case...
