My dad is 110/70 every day of his life.

My mom was in the 140-150/90 range but was taking medicine to lower it. She also lost about 20 pounds (she wasn't overweight but probably close, now she is at a great BMI). She was at 125/80 with the meds but after she lost the weight, she lowered her dosage and her blood pressure hasn't gone up at all, fwiw.

My thyroid is fricked up. If I come off my beta blocker, and have an attack, my bp will be like 180/130. When I control it, I am usually in the 110/60 range.

It's really easy to operate an is within a few points of a manual cuff. It's taken some abuse too, the kids check their BP 10 times in a row like little hypochondriacs.

Here is a interesting paradox concerning blood pressure, if you went to a FAA medical examiner for a flight physical and your blood pressure is 150/90 they would say good enough, you pass. But if you go to the typical primary care physician with BP at 150/90 you are going to be put on meds with the suggestion you will die if you don't. One doc says you are healthy enough to fly a passenger plane, the other says you could drop dead without medication.

LINK

"An applicant whose pressure does not exceed 155 mm mercury systolic and 95 mm mercury diastolic maximum pressure, who has not used antihypertensive medication for 30 days, and who is otherwise qualified should be issued a medical certificate by the Examiner."

I work with a bunch of 40 and 50 year olds and pretty much every one has high blood pressure. I think if you live long enough, everyone eventually gets it.

Yeah that's too high. Take your meds and exercise. If you can't run try a rowing machine. Maybe try yoga and meditation. Do research on what foods will affect blood pressure. Good luck.

I don't really know, the last physical I took my BP was 150 over something and they said good no problem. The FAA has a large number of physicians that study aeromedical factors to determine what will and will not affect flight safety, so it is not like they don't know what they are doing. They are generally very strict regarding what type of medical conditions you can have, and medications you can take and still fly. I read a article by a NASA astronaut/physician who study BP, and he found there was a linear relationship between what the various entities consider a safe BP, and the number of drugs available to lower it.

150/90 is an indication you are eating like shite, lazy, or on a trend of having stroke or heart attack. It doesn't mean you can't function normally. Don't lead people to believe having a bp in that range is healthy. You sound like that fat women saying high weight is okay, then she died at 34 from a heart attack.

It is the standard dictated by the FAA, it is not my opinion. Do you think the doctors at the Federal Aviation Administration would allow a medical condition that could increase the chances of a pilot having a stroke or heart attack in flight, that would be counter to their intended purpose.

Have lowered mine. No more no meds and 112/71

I juice about 4-6beets per day and have seen a marked decrease in blood pressure.
