Who do you think is more intelligent?

A) Oceanographer who graduated high school a year early, 4.0s through science and applied science degrees, and works for the government mapping the ocean floor all over the world.
B) CEO of a company that owns 6 very successful restaurants as well as other land and business ventures.
I had a discussion with my BIL about this yesterday and his point was that A was just very good in school and effectively still does that same type problem solving everyday. B has shown his intelligence by making tons of money and traveling the Americas on his sport fishing yacht, and that A would never be hired to really run anything because, well...he just isn't intelligent enough to.
I tend to think the CEO is smart with money and so he has it, and he's intelligent enough to employ quality individuals. IDK, as a scientist/engineer my gut still tells me A is more intelligent.

Not everyone with high intelligence just tries to get rich, which makes the comparison flawed.
Who's to say the CEO couldn't be a successful oceanographer or vice versa?

Not enough information. My brother is extremely intelligent, but lazy. he has dumb friends that have had more success in their careers because they aren't lazy.

Yeah.
Intelligence isn't very easy to quantify

Does successful = intelligence?
Pure self made success though.

There are different degrees of intelligence when it comes to different areas in life. If someone excels in the sciences, they may be an idiot when it comes to simple business.
Doesn't mean they aren't as smart though, to a degree

Each of them can be smart in different ways and areas. Fwiw...successful does not equal smart. Some people are just lucky

Did you figure out how to create a PowerPoint presentation yet?

For the sake of the argument we're assuming neither could do each other's job. The CEO just wasn't as book smart and the Oceanographer just simply doesn't have the people skills and gravitas of the CEO.

Dumb question, no way to know.

Not even close in my experience.

I personally believe that a person with a high intelligence level will excel in most anything they try their hand in. Rather it be science, business, or even hobbies.

B is probably more well rounded and has a broader range of knowledge.
Posted on 6/7/16 at 2:37 pm to Gaston
Intelligence doesn't equal success. A is likely more intelligent but you can't know for sure with the information presented. To do what B has done just takes start up capital and basic business sense. Basic business and making money doesn't require intelligence it requires hard work and money

By that same logic:
Is Kim Kardashian more intelligent than you?
She probably makes more money than you
Is Kim Kardashian more intelligent than you?
She probably makes more money than you
