For me it is people who plan out their lives ahead of time and use people along the way: the frat boy type to whom the skank is great fun until graduation, the Baptist who writes off his drinking buddy as a relic of his "backsliding," the spouse who "trades up"... so much of this is actually inculcated into us and encouraged by our culture.
Like much of what I find reprehensible, it comes (perhaps second-hand) from Shakespeare, in the "hero" Henry V and his willingness to toss aside Falstaff.
