Posting for a friend.

Anyone seen this Mike the Tiger figurine before and what it originally looked like or what purpose it served? What the heck goes into it's head?

Early ‘70s (believe 72-73) Hoffman Whiskey Musical Decanter. It’s missing the Football with cork at the top and the music box at the bottom.

Hoffman! That's it. I was thinking McCormick. My dad owned a bar and had hundreds of McCormic decanters including a different Mike the Tiger.

There are a few different versions including one with a tucked helmet, one of just mikes head in a helmet, one of mike on top of a football with “hold that tiger”, as well as a few others

Mike seems to be in a rather uncomfortable predicament there.

I can tell you that it doesn't look like Mike or even a tiger.

I have that exact same figurine. It holds liquor. On the bottom (missing from the one you have) is a music box that plays "Fighting Tigers" when you wind it up. And you are missing the cork that goes into the top (shaped like a football). Late 70s my parents bought that.

Are these worth anything? My grandma has quite a few of the helmeted ones in her attic.

If you ever find a decanter like this that still has whiskey in it I would advise to not drink it as decanters like this from that era have leached lead into the whiskey over time.
