I barely remember what I ate for breakfast this morning. You expect me to remember everything going on in my life from like 1 year old to now?

I don’t know why but remembering lunch or dinner is often more challenging than remembering stuff from a year ago, at least for me.

I have a hard time with this. There's just a handful of moments I can recall as a young child, which is sad because my father died when I was 7 and there are just a few memories I have of him, even though we were close.

I was probably 9 or 10 and we were riding down the road and passed by the apartment building. I said "Hey, that's the apartment we lived in when I was little. Ours was at the end on the corner." My dad literally almost jumped out of his skin because I couldn't have been more than 2-1/2 because I remember it was cold and wearing a jacket that night but they moved out around Valentine's Day and my birthday is in July.

I can't name a single college professor I had but could probably come up with 80% of elementary-high school teachers. Can only remember the names of 2 or 3 girls I dated before I met my wife (typically only dated for a couple of months at the mosts).

When I was 14, my brother didn’t realize he held my head under water too long at the pool. Those 14 years flashed before my eyes in a split second. Guess I drowned but it wasn’t my time

Forgetting is an important part of life.
Mental health, one example, depends on it.
Women’s child birth, horrific accidents, loss of loved ones, hurtful moments in life, etc.
If you can remember your entire life, you are probably on Prozac (or should be).

I use to do this. Drive to work in the AM and think about all the ways I have been wronged in the past and being pissed off before the day even begins. But I quit doing this a long time ago. Like changing the channel on a Tv. I immediately choose not to think about it and think about something else. Kind of like moving on when your favorite team loses and you watched every second of the game and remember everything.

I can remember ridiculously way back in my life. I didn't think it was that big a deal, but the more people I talk to, it seems to be sort of unusual.

I was about to say this… our memories are rarely how they actually happened. Details are often changed and some events entirely never happened. It’s wild to think about sometimes, have I really lived a certain life or is it my minds way of blocking out trauma.

I don't think I ever could recall whole conversations.

I got through trig by memorizing. I didn't know how trig worked until my daughter was in high school and I read a tutorial on the Purdue website.
