it went pretty well. This thread was a lifesaver. Turns out ‘colored’ is not the preferred word for a church attended by people of color. ‘Color’ is one of those tricky words. Don’t use it or any variation unless you’re 100% sure you know what your doing.
I was a little disturbed that they served bbq chicken. I thought ‘this seems racist’ and I wasn’t going to eat any but I think it was meant to be ironic and I got hungry.

I wish I saw this thread sooner. Never in your life refer to black people as colored, unless you are purposely trying to start a fight.

Also, if you are around a church crowd, specifically a black church, discussing hip hop is not the way to go. Listening to Gospel is the way to go. If they are a younger and more laid back crowd then Gospel Rap or even R&B/Soul can also be relatable.
