I've been asked if white people can be involved in Black Out Loud Conference 2018. The answer is yes but not in a “gurrrl I got my invite to the cookout” kinda way. Not that at all. We are inviting whiteness in the least self-centering way. The invitation is one where our allies will either be of service or participating in critical learning. Anything else would be a sideshow that I am not interested in.
With regards to non-Black people of color, you are invited as we also seek to forge more solidarity with other marginalized peoples in the city and beyond. I want us to be able to see the possibilities in centering our identities/narratives, unapologetically.
Above all, this conference will focus on Blackness in all of its glorious & complex iterations. At its core this is about moving our voices, our narratives from outside the margins, specifically within Baton Rouge and the state of Louisiana. It will be a celebration of visibility & foregrounding culture in a manner that is not fetishized or appropriated or co-opted for anything other than what it is.

I'm gonna start the white out loud conference. No blacks allowed though. They're too loud.

I’m a POC with 0.02% Sub Saharan African in me but I mostly look like a Jew. Can my voice be advanced? I’m iterating over here.
