I have my doubts if they ever break ground, but one thing I know, it's not going to be finished by next year.

IMO it really is. He says a lot of things are but to me this really would be. To those that say it's a copy of the Triomphe and the Brandenburg have to understand that those 2 are simply Roman inspired like many things around the world and this would continue that.

I get that and it's certainly not ugly, just feel like we could come up with something a bit more unique.

The Arc de Triomph is an evolution of the Arch of Titus (technically its 19th century restoration, but that's neither here nor there):

The proposed arch is a sad, plain, slightly larger derivative, down to placing it within a circle:

That is really beautiful. The statue reminds me of the old image of Lady Liberty on the Silver Dollar. How anyone can be against this is beyond me? It’s reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty in 1876 that was donated to the Nation by France. It’s fitting that private companies would donate this monument in honor of the 250th birthday of America.

Whoa hold up, that is way too rational. You must either love or hate everything Trump does no matter what

Yes, Trump's and Napoleon's are relatively contemporaries in comparison to the Roman arch that inspired them. I don't really know the point you're making other than you don't like this design.
If this was ever made the final design could be different anyway.

In a perfect world a president Donald Trump would be focused on rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. World class airports and rail, modernizing cities and roadways, beautifying our public spaces. On time and under budget.

I guess saving America from corrupt commie scumbags is important too.

It’s going to look really magnificent at Arlington and overlooking the City of DC across the Potomac River. I think Josh is failing to appreciate the full context of where it will be placed.

Yes and no. The original Arch of Titus was part of a larger wall:

The blocky arch we know today is due to a restoration in the 1820's. The Arc de Triomph was completed in the 1930's. They were very near contemporaries.

My issue is that it just looks pathetically derivative.

I think it looks fantastic. The Arc in Paris is for losers. Stone cold losers in fact. Believe me. A lot of people are talking about it.

I'm not, considering said context was clearly reflected in the map I posted in my second post on this thread. And I'm sure it will look lovely in context. Also plain, soulless, and derivative.

I have no idea what “pathetically derivative” even means in the context of architecture.

You realize that the entire architecture of the Capital City development by L’enfant is based on Greco-Roman design? Why would you build a monument that wasn’t consistent with the architecture of the City?

It looks like something else + Trump makes me bleed from my arse everytime he speaks = pathetically derivative.
