On her FB, she frequently comments about her speech and dialect and has insight to how unprofessional it sounds. When she tries to sound professional, it almost makes it worse.

I was in the classrooms a lot at just about every school in the city at some point. Plus I had the added bonus of getting to make home visits in the projects so go frick your self you ignorant frick. A majority of black Orleans Parish teachers have better diction and dress and act more appropriately than this.

What does it mean to keep it real?
I think it's about denying or repressing your white privilege, and trying to relate to kids whose parents don't work, do drugs, and buy groceries with money paid for by our taxes.

But many of them don't. And good teachers know how to deal with it be making an effort to relate.

Except the majority of parents of kids in NOLA public schools do work and don't so drugs.

Speaking like that isn't relating. My sister teaches at a public school in Nola and she doesn't speak like a hoodrat, and she was voted the top teacher at her school. The kids absolutely love her, and she's one of the few at her school that can keep her class in check.
It's about mixing discipline with fun, and getting the students to enjoy learning. Easier said than done I know.
