I think it's funny.

It would make SJW heads explode because this year's PC rules say males can't wear female costumes. It was linked here last week.

they were still performing minstrel shows in the South when my parents were kids, that's not that long ago.

I'm sure you have no problem with the confederate statues coming down since it was the past and all, right?

The sooner you realize that it’s okay to dress as whatever you want as long as you tell the people who are “offended” to piss off instead of apologizing, the sooner you will be be free.

Does it affect my life? No. Do I think it was stupid? Yes, I sure didn't lose any sleep over it.
Let me ask you this, can the past be changed? Yes or No, everyone knows the answer. Perhaps if people focused more on their lives and making them better instead of being hurt by things that literally cannot hurt them, things would be better.

Yep, which is the default reaction to costumes

People have a sense of humor until they're programmed to be offended. Woke, educated, whatever you want to call it, it's just propaganda.

well i was trying to make two separate but somewhat related points.

1. whites don't have a history of being charicatured and mocked on stage by black people, so there is a difference in how it will be received within each group

2. there is a difference between "blackface" and dressing up as a black person and darkening your skin

bullshite. It's just more socially acceptable.
Virtually every black comedian mocks white people, and we laugh..

It depends on intent.

Blackface is historically racist. It's just inappropriate. Especially with white around the lips and eyes.

Whiteface is not. If the costume isnt meant to be offensive and just in fun it's fine. It can be malicious but its case by case.

Do you really think things happening today are as bad as what happened in the past? Everyone, regardless of skin tone, has better opportunities. Some succeed and some don't. Why is it always having to be offended or blaming others? That's all I want to know. Once again, was stupid stuff done in the past? Absolutely

Richard Pryor s white people routines were hilarious. And yeah, we know we're being mocked

It's ok

see, this is where you're wrong. minstrel shows DID hurt black people. They portrayed them as shifty, unreliable, untrustworthy, etc. Such things make you perceive people differently, and then in a real life situation you DO treat them differently.

Hell, some white people used to think blacks had tails and other crazy shite. You can't tell me minstrel shows did not have a negative impact and cause damage to black people, the remnants of which still exist to this day.

the whole fried chicken and watermelon trope comes directly from minstrel shows!

blackface is the caricaturization of blacks. if you're just dressing up as MLK or Muhamed ali and darken your skin, that's not blackface.
