As an Ex-Mormon I can say that the part about the extra tithing being used for purposes other than official "church business" is a huge deal. We were always strongly reassured that tithing would never be used for anything thing dealing with the Church owned business and such.
Does this surprise me? No. The LDS church is nothing but a huge money making scheme for select old-time families from Utah. The Church was founded as a scheme and remains one today. God I was stupid to believe in that crap for so long.

My church gives to the needy in Baton Rouge as well as in impoverished countries. Why the hell would you want to tax CHARITIES like that?
