The Kansas City metro is larger than the Austin metro.

I think New Orleans could become the next Austin if they could get a conservative government (which could happen if the Northshore wimps moved back).
But, uh.. Y'all first...

Correct. Like I said, KC is not exactly a "small" city, but it is smaller than most of the other major league cities.

It will have to acquire 400,000 people to become as big as Austin. I just don't see it likely. It is already a pretty cool small city though

Do you not want more clients, more business, more money?

What happens if you are laid off? Would it be difficult to obtain another one?

I agree that Huntsville will be the largest city population wise in Alabama in 10 years. But I don’t see how it can reach “Nashville” size based solely on the infrastructure limitations. Because of Redstone Arsenal, I don’t see where you can build more highways. I think Huntsville is basically stuck with just 565 and Memorial Pkwy being the only major highways in Huntsville unless the city can work something out with the Arsenal.

My money was on Reno. It was on a roll and got the tesla battery development contract and Lots of warehouse growth for Amazon, but seems to have slid.

Charleston is a trendy tourist place but I don’t know if it has the infrastructure to support that many new residents.

Greenville SC, Columbus, GA could be ones to watch. Mobile seems an attractive place what keeps it from being a contender - is it a culcha issue?

Greenville absolutely, although I hope it doesn't get much bigger than it already is.

Columbus will never. The old money that has that town locked down will forever keep it from becoming a metropolis. They like things just the way they are, where they can make every call on who/what comes into that city.

Absolute miracle they ever managed to sneak Pratt and Whitney into there but that place fizzled out 15 years ago, even if it has picked up in the last year. No high tech work, and even if they build here , there is no high tech work force in place in the near future to enable such a feat.

Greenville, on the other hand, continues to add business/factory on a seemingly weekly basis. Having BMW here has been a huge part of that.

And what makes it crazy sounding is the closest interstate to us is two hours south near Missoula.

Yeah, the closest to road rage I've had in MT was during spring road work en rt to whitefish. Glacier is obviously a whole other level these days. I have posted about my GNP coping mechanisms (backcountry or if taking people who aren't up for that, then we are up at 4am and we don't take GTTSR back).

I'm 5 blocks from I-90 by campus in Missoula and I've never even seen a slight slowdown. The couple of suburban strip-mall/box store areas are getting pretty bad though. No traffic planning because it was never foreseen.

Mclemore you are my hero. I did a book report on Mohatan in the 4th grade and have been very interested ever since. Did the Whitefish/GNP thing a few years ago and I can assume that's the real Montana, but I play around with idea of moving there.

How long you there and what line of work are you in?

BTW - was surprised to see Jacksonville as 12th largest. You always here how it's too small a market to have NFL team. Based on what? LINK

From what my friends that live down that way say, Greenville is a cool city that has a lot of potential.

And Austin still does not have a single professional team.

McComb, MS. All the folks running from Jackson go south and the ones fleeing NO and Baton Rouge head north, they collide in McComb.

Nah we are good.

I recently figured out what is holding NOLA back. There is an enormous ghetto running through the middle of the city

But seriously, if the city were ever to appropriate central city, the city could blow up. It makes sense that if downtown were ever to expand, it would have to happen there. Sadly I can’t think of a circumstance where that would be necessary

That's a list of city populations, not metropolitan area populations. There are plenty of cities that have pretty low population because many more people live in the suburbs, outside city limits.
