There are definitely some people like this. We call them democrats. For me, my kids are now into Pokémon and I enjoy the nostalgia of sharing that with them. I have no problem spending money on cards to build their collection. My five year old tells me this Pokémon is the GOAT right now:

It’s not really any different than some boomer collecting toys from their childhood. I don’t see a lot of value in a tin toy car with a missing wheel in the same way they don’t see value in Pokémon cards.
