I will go through "the hood" in my area depending on where I am going and if I see someone I know, they will either flag me down or I will stop just to talk with them for a few minutes. I don't feel unsafe at all. There is one street that is worse than the others and I don't make it a habit to go down it, but it doesn't bother me if I have to..

In college, I worked for a local government building permit and inspection department.. We were also responsible for handling abandoned property. Most of the complaints we got were from either "the hood" or back woods rural areas.

The thing about "the hood" is that they have older people there who care and we helped people who had been complaining for years and they were grateful.

If there were complaints about some back woods area... It was a mess. We had a process to go through. Identify who owned property, send them letter that if they didn't start a clean up process removing hazards on their property, etc, they would call in.. "this is my property, you can kiss my arse. I don't have to move a goddamn thing". Next thing you know, here comes half the family wanting to talk to whoever sent the letter (was usually me) and they would come tell me that if anyone ever tried to come on their property they will shoot them...

They will have kids outside, with a leaking engine in the tree, old cars.. Or just old shite that pilled up that attracts snakes, rats, etc...frick that. Those backwoods people are fricking crazy.
