Hammond's a dark horse answer (FYI, when I refer to Hammond I mean the mile radius of the downtown area )

It used to be janky, but it's a free for all now pretty much. I think from 6 am to midnight everyday is the only restriction on liquor stores.

If we are picking an actual town, Venice or Grand Isle.

Mandeville probably checks all of the boxes. It's beautiful along the lake, has great restaurants, low crime, good schools, decent bar scene for a town its size, and it's close to New Orleans for when you want to see a show at the Sanger or catch a Saints game. It's also not too far from Baton Rouge for LSU games, fairly close to good beaches at Gulf Shores, great boating and fishing, etc.

Madisonville, Covington, and Abita Springs are all great towns and very close to Mandeville.

Covington or Mandeville. Or Covington/Mandeville.

The northshore in general is dragged down by the problems associated with uncontrolled development. If you moved there from New Orleans, it probably seems great. If you grew up there, you hate what it has become.
