Which gaming console do i need?

My kid is moving out this week for his 2nd year of college - I want to be able to play a couple of games with him a couple times a week or so - basically ncaa football, fifa, madden, and pga golf. He plays on an xbox series s. I have no intention, nor desire, nor the time to get into anything beyond those games.
Do I need an xbox series s or can i play on another, more cost effective console? Obviously, i have no idea what I'm doing here.

you can get the same one, or a series x. I use mine for gaming and watching TV & Movies. It's a useful device.

Maybe start up playing chess or even Scrabble or something like that along with killing eachother in videogame world Call of Doody

The Series S is already the “cost effective console” compared to the Series X. If cost effective is your goal in this scenario, the Series S is your buy.

Maybe an active Dad wants to stay connected to his boy remotely and talk live about any subject they want. That's time well spent, estranged daddy bitter man.

You will need either X-Box (series S or X), PS5, or a gaming PC
Gaming PC is the least cost effective option. Also the most complicated because there's so many variables in performance specs with all the different processor, memory, and video card options you can choose from.
In the X-Box options, Series S is cheaper than Series X. But Series S doesn't have a disc drive, so all of your games will have to be digital downloads. Which means you can't re-sell the physical discs later because the digital version is tied to your X-Box account. Series X console costs more, but has the disc drive, giving you the option for physical discs.
Personally, I'd go with the PS5 option since your son already has an X-Box. That way he can use your PS5 if there's a certain game he wants to play that's exclusive to Playstation.

Getting an Xbox Series X (or even an S) would be the best choice because you join parties together and play games together.
With that being said, most consoles are cross platform now, and you can still play together even if you had a playstation.

Buy a used console online or at Gamestop on Siegen or GameWare on College Drive. You should be able to find a used X Box for less than $150.

Yep, when we are together me and my son fish, play golf and other outdoor activities. When we are not we play games online occasionally. Keeps us connected.

I haven't played vidya since my 360 RRoD, but is this true? Can I play NCAA on an Xbox against someone on a PS5?

Yes. You can even play NCAA on a console vs someone on a PC. Cross platform option has gotten to be pretty common with online play games.

Whatever you decide, I’d recommend getting used. Todays prices are absolutely insane buying new.
