I just retired a 2002 last year.
377k miles and every option on it still worked
The little 4.6 just couldn't take it anymore.

Shoulda just got it fixed. My 02 had 280k on the engine when it started knocking. Put a crate motor in and I’m now at 331k. Still Rides and drives like a charm.

I’m driving a 2014 with 238k miles as my daily driver. I’ve replaced a water pump and starter on it outside of regular maintenance and tires.

This truck still runs like a top. It runs so well I’m afraid to buy a new truck based on all the new truck issues I’m hearing but when I do I’m going Chevy Trailboss Custom with the little diesel.

Found On Road Dead, fricked On Race Day etc etc. Seriously though, what about the 2011 with a 3.7 V6. Not a bad truck for an every day driver.

I put about 150k miles on a ‘02 F-150 in three years from 02-05. Moved to a new Avalanche from it. Zero issues with either. Only F150 I’ve ever had.

I have an 04 with square body and I swear they built it out of 2 generations parts bins. It's a 2v motor so that is probably the best thing about it. The trans hasn't started its 3rd gear slip yet, so I got that going for me.

Have a 2014 F150 with the 5.0 and six speed transmission. 179k miles and I have replaced the starter other than routine maintenance. Currently has an oil leak on the rear main that I will get fixed soon. All the Chevy drivers I know have switched to Toyota or Dodge, primarily because of transmission problems at the 100 to 120k miles range. Will drive this 2014 till the wheels fall off or I get 300k miles. It’s been a solid truck.

Probably like 2019 or so with the 5.0? Can’t remember the year they didn’t have transmission and cam phaser issues. But that model year looks the best until you go back to the early 1990s.

If you want something better than that get a Ram with the HEMI and ZF.

A 5.7L Tundra or 5.3L Sierra would be better than all of that but it sounds like you want to stick with crap.

33 years ago my dad bought the 92 F150 with the straight six motor - I'm convinced this was the peak of Ford engineering because that thing went over 360,000 miles without a single hiccup. It was my first vehicle after high school and we had to ditch it in 2003 because gas prices more than doubled and it started to cost over $70 to fill that thing up and it was sucking down fuel. That truck was an absolute beast.

Yeah that was the one of the last really good Ford truck generations. Before the CAFE standards and EPA nonsense. The next ones were okay but looked weird IMO.

It went downhill after that. 5.4L 3v V8 issues. Cam phaser issues. 6R80 transmission issues. Timing chain issues. Wet belts that would flake awake and clog oil passages. 10R80 transmission issues. A lot of bad batches of coolant hoses that would crack. It’s never ending.

The new ones are problematic, but then again so are almost all new pickups right now.

I had a 2008 FX2 sport. It was a great truck, right up until the point it wasn't a great truck.

Their 5.0 V8 was a really good engine, I would steer clear of that first gen twin turbo, thing was a piece of shite.

I would stay away from the recession year models 2009-2013

You could probably get a low mileage 2016ish for a hell of a deal.

If you get something 10-15yrs old, it'll likely have 120K+ miles. Then you'll be playing wife fire on how long it'll last.

I like the 5.0L’s power. It is probably my favorite current half ton truck engine. They actually have fewer issues with the newer 2.7L turbo motors. Yeah the one with the plastic oil pan.

Still paired to the 10R80 though, which has been rough for Ford.
