Whats up with this bullshite weather? I kept hearing about how la nina was going to keep louisiana dryer than normal but its been cloudy and shitty the past several weeks. Im trying to build a house right now and its really fricking me. Why do weather forecasters suck so bad? And its going to be 76 degrees on christmas.... wtf

I do wish it was colder for Christmas.

They can only give you the information they have... And since weather can change, you can look at the extended forecast one day and it shows a specific day will have certain weather conditions then two days later it could change. The highs will be in the 70s through the Christmas weekend until the end of next week then it shows it will get cooler.
If you live in South Louisiana this shouldn't be a surprise.

Well at least Im not blaming it on the chemtrails. I just don't understand how they can tell us all about this la nina effect and they are just flat wrong about it. I guess its like global warming. Just a sham

looking at the GFS run for 12z (6AM) It looks like we're gonna be parked under a ridge of high pressure for quite some time which will keep temperatures relatively warm. looking at upper air soundings there's a relatively high amount of moisture present above the surface which is providing the clouds. Forecast sounding are calling for the upper level moisture to die down some though so that may provide an opportunity for the clouds to break. it does seem like there's going to be some south winds building up into christmas eve which will cause the temperatures to warm some which will be the cause for the relatively warm Christmas.
unfortunately the ridge looks set to be over us at least through the better part of next week so the pattern will probably be in place for some time now.
To answer your question about forecasters sucking its still a relatively young science and theres still a ton of unknowns about why things work the way they do. hell 95% of the shite we base out knowledge off of are still considered theories. Even with all of that in mind meteorologists are still right way more often than theyre not.

quote:not at all. el nino and la nina are very real. even though you would expect the trends to act a certain way over a period of time theres still going to be deviations from the trend during that period based on various factors.
Just a sham

weather forecast does not equal attempting to guesstimate the impact of the water temperature in the eastern Pacific. La Nina and El Nino are words associated with the water temp in the Pacific and the typical weather noticed when water is at a certain temp. Once you see a temperature, you attempt to find correlation with past weather.
