St. Tammany is fast becoming an over-developed slum with possible the most crooked government in the state.

The flood should have awakened people to the consequences of development without land-use planning. Hundreds of homes flooded that didn't have to.

But it probably didn't change any minds among the decision making class. Money talks.

I would live in the city of BR if they want good restaurants. There are good restaurants in the surrounding areas but just not very many in any one spot. If they want land, Addis/Brusly isn't a bad drive into town except during the evening rush hours.

St. Francisville. Even with the limited amount of restaurants, it's very peaceful and the drive to/from BR is easy with very little traffic.

New Roads if you are Catholic.

St Franvisville if you are Protestant.

St Francisville is the answer here. Baton rouge is 35 minutes away with zero traffic. A brand new grocery store and a really nice new restaurant

Agreed in principle, but the recent flood got some of what you termed the decision making class.

A couple of folks I know who have been in their houses thirty-plus years and this was their first flood event at the residence.

To the OP, for retired folks, Laffy or the Northshore. Access to good healthcare is a big deal at that point in people's lives. Plenty of options for age-restricted or condo living in the Mandeville/Covington area. The new DA in St Tammany/Washington is running a clean shop, even speeding tickets don't get fixed.

Waterfront living on the Diversion Canal. 45 minutes to downtown Baton Rouge, 1 hour to downtown NOLA. There are 3 pretty good restaurants within a couple of miles

In Mandeville, Madisonville, and Covington, there were codes and plans in place. The local government just got rid of them all and allowed 40,000 more shite spec houses and apartment complexes to be built within a 3 year time span.

My mom lived in one of the nicer neighborhoods in Slidell, but salt water inundated the place. Can't do much about a powerful hurricane bringing salt water miles inland

Yes you too can pay for an over-priced piece of land that is steadily eroding and watch as your house falls and sinks into the canal. Just go to Kevin's restaurant and look across the canal as your eating and look for yourself. Great food though.

While I don't understand the attraction of living on the diversion I do like the area. French Settlement specifically. Things just seem to move a little slower around there.
