St. Francisville has nothing. One decent grocery and a few decent restaurants.
If you want amenities five minutes away, you live in a city. If you want peace and quiet, you live in a small town and put up with a little inconvenience. It's a rare small town that has both, and it is usually on its way to becoming the kind of place you were trying to get away from. See: Covington/Mandeville.

Mandeville.....there is no hood....
Lived in BR for 20 plus years then job moved to N.O.
only needed two years and would be able to return to BR.
Been here in Mandy 15 years now and here to stay. Brothers, niece and nephews have now moved here also after visiting a few times...

OP said the folks wanted some amenities like good restaurants. St. Francisville doesn't have a good restaurant, just a few decent ones. There is nothing there.
Why were the parents trying to get away from Mandeville? That's not what the OP posted.

Northshore or a little further east to Bay St Louis. Either one has close access to water or living on the water.

On the Tickfaw river.
That gives you access to the outdoors and an easy hour to Baton Rouge or New Orleans.
Hammond is 20 minutes or so, if they need anything.

Lafayette is the only answer. St. Tammany is fast becoming an over-developed slum with possibly the most crooked government in the state. Everything else is rural wasteland.

New Roads. Across the river, St. Francisville is a good option.

Chateau or Oakland plantation.

Only reason they are considering moving is because they want to be close to the grandkids. They would stay in Kingwood if so.
