Really depends on how old you are.

I live in Memorial/Spring Branch and love it. Upper Kirby/Midtown/Rice Village is trendy especially if you're a younger guy but the traffic over there sucks.

Best of luck in your choice and welcome to Htown

Aren't prices there for something decent up above $400/ft now?

I don't imagine it's cheap, but I thought we were talking "ideal."

What are the odds someone can scoop up an O&G foreclosure in the next 6 months to a year?

Inventory was low to begin with, new construction has slowed. I don't see any dramatic reduction in real estate prices in Houston anytime soon. Sorry.

I got a lot of this from a long time houston real estate guy i played golf with the other day.

Bummer.

Sounds like you live there now. For 500 to 700 where would you look? No kids but a school worth a shite would be nice as we'd probably try within 3 years.

Things have slowed down, but not to the point of massive foreclosures or anything.

He's right, thats probably your best bet. TBH if you don't have kids yet. Best case scenario you are looking for a school 6 years down the road, probably 8. Just find a cheap place in an area you like.

Yep, to both of these.

Do you even private school bro?

We sold our house in the Heights in May. We got $315/sq ft.

I just moved to westchase. Got an apartment for fairly cheap in a safe area with a lot of stuff around, and only takes about 20 min to get downtown when it's not rush hour. Not the prettiest of views though.
