How close were you to where the plane hit? Glad you are still with us.

Submarine drydock in Kings Bay, GA. I spent the next several weeks standing armed watches on an 8-on, 12-off schedule. fricking stupid Muslim fricks.

Freshman in high school. Our teacher got word of the first plane hitting the WTC's North Tower and turned the TV on to NBC. Saw the second plane hit live.
What really was stunning was that we changed classes right as the South Tower collapsed (we had TVs on in the hallways), as it fell everyone went dead silent. You could hear a pin drop.
As a native New Yorker, it was devastating to watch icons that you knew really well disappear in the span of 90 minutes because of some sick fricks. Obviously it didn't compare to the massive loss of life though.

Watched it live from Bayonne,N.J. ... First plane struck going North to South...we figured it was an accident as flames and smoke increased because we worked outside....no T.V. for us until lunchtime...second plane flew directly overhead us/our facility way too low and way too fast....we tracked it briefly as it tracked over the Hudson into the second Tower....at that point life and work changed forever for myself...at least...the rest of the day was info gathering regarding Pentagon and the other downed Airliner....

I remember every single channel from ESPN to MTV carrying the news footage and simulcasting.

Had been in the Air Force for less than two years. I knew that my life would change that day.
I was at work, working the Herk

I had just got my braces on the day before, I was in the 4th grade. Stayed home from school because my teeth hurt so bad. My dad worked nights so he was asleep and I was watching cartoons when it was all going down. When he got up after lunch we turned the news on. After my brothers got home from school we waited in line at the gas station because people were speculating a gas shortage. I really wasn't old enough to grasp how serious it was and how many people had just died. I just remember how patriotic people were after.

5th grade mr marsh class. Just got back from art class. He was in the reserves so he kept it on the tv the whole time even when they came over the intercom telling teachers to keep their tv off. He explained to us what was happening and then one by one everyone was getting checked out of school. I stayed the whole fricking day and parents made me go to football practice that night (all of 4 other kids showed up) and it was cancelled.

At work in Houston area, about three months into 1st grown up job. My boss was in Virginia for ADP payroll conference and ended up driving back after flight cancelled.
I called my dad shortly before 1st tower came down. He said "This is one of those events that you will always remember where you were and what you were doing. Like JFK for my generation."
I sort of understood after the towers fell and even more so in the years that followed.

I was in 5th grade at the time in Sachse, Texas. It happened as my dad dropped me off at school. The school acted as though it were just a regular day and none of the kids had any idea until later. The only difference is that the principal wouldn't let us go out for recess because of an eleged "ozone layer issue" (even at that age I was skeptical).
Still in the dark, After school I was dropped off at home with strict instructions from my parents not to turn on the tv for any reason; and so of course I did. The images I saw on that tv screen at 4:30 in the afternoon will forever be engrained in my memory.

2nd to last week of Air Force Basic Training.

9th grade. Second period. Dad was on a flight from NYC and no less than 6 kids got pulled from class by the principal and a counselor in my classes. Every time I thought they were going to call my name and my dad was going to be gone.
Everything was fine for me. 10 kids parents were hurt or died. One girl's dad killed himself a few weeks later because he had 10 of his staff die, and he called out of work that morning.
Terrifying time to live in the northeast.

At work.
We all were trying to watch the news on a couple of TVs that we had there, but our A hole boss kept telling everyone yo get back to work.
As some may remember, rumors were going crazy that day about local water supplies had been tainted, other aircraft that had been hijacked and had not landed yet.etc.

Some of you may not have read this story.
LINK to story about female fighter pilot. Sent up with no live ammunition. Plan was to ram her jet into plane headed to Whitehouse. Her dad was airline pilot and she did not know if it was her dad's plane she was targeting.

I was a freshman at LSU in my college algebra class. The class ended at 9 and my next class wasn't until noon. I went to the bookstore to sleep in one of the chairs and I heard people talking about something that happened but no one ever said what actually happened. It wasn't until my noon class when the professor cancelled class this I found out what had happened. My mom was working at home and saw the second plane hit live. I had been asking for a cellphone for more than a year and the next day she went and bought me one.

My Family had just recently sold our Businesses so I was at home.
Turned on the News and one Tower was smoking.Didn't know what was up til the 2nd plane.
I had a very lonely feeling.
I was living about 50 miles from Montgomery where Maxwell and Gunter Airforce Bases are located.
It wasn't long before Jets were all that was flying.
