I was in college. All of my professors canceled class. It was a surreal time.

Teacher in a high school classroom. Class had just started. I always flipped to the news on my PC I during the day and saw the news. I eased over to adjoining classroom to tell that teacher. We turned our TV on and tried to keep the students calm.

It’s unfair.

It’s human nature in so far as weakness of mind and context.

It is not inevitable.

Second grade. Teacher turned the classroom tv on after the first plane hit

Why do you think the teacher would do this? 1st plane was just news. 2nd plane was attack.

My office…when the second tower got hit, I knew we were in for a long night immediately. We had to figure out how to protect some critical utility infrastructure in a hurry.

I was installing doors at a condo. I do have one memory that has always stuck with me though. My grandfather was a WW2 vet and he lived right up the road from me. I get off work and walk up to the house and he is sitting on the porch smoking a cigarette. First thing he says is "Well I guess the Braves ain't gonna be playing tonight." Old boy had lived Pearl Harbor and 9/11 and all he wanted to do was watch his Braves on TBS.

In algebra 2 class. Principal came over the intercom and told everyone that there had been a terrorist attack and for all of the teachers to stop their lessons and turn on the TV news. No bells to change class the rest of the day....everyone just stayed in whatever class they were in at the time and watched the news all day except for lunch.

Colorado Springs, preparing to go to work. We lived extremely close to NORAD, which was the location that many felt would shelter the president. NORAD, for those not familiar, is actually imbedded inside Cheyenne Mountain and relatively secure. Everyone at work was concerned that the Springs and NORAD, which I could see from my office window, could be a target. The president went to Barksdale Air Force Base instead.

Finance class in CEBA. Listened on my headphones as news was growing. I told Dean and he said it was not important. I bailed and bought the first American flag I could find

On my way to class at UNO

I had philosophy of art first - class was dismissed but you could stay and talk about what happened

I didn’t know what happened, so I stayed to find out. Went to my next class (Continental Rationalism) and the professor said we were having class - if class was canceled ‘they win’

Working in the Supply Squadron at Altus AFB OK. We were notified of the first plane flying to the WTC and gathered around the break room TV to watch the news coverage.

got to work right after the first plane hit.

didn't have a TV in the shop at that time, so all we had was radio.

while not joking about it, we didn't exactly take it seriously either.
figured somebody had just made the biggest frickup imaginable.

then the report came on that the 2nd tower was hit.

suddenly it wasn't just a frickup.

RIght. After the second it was obvious we were under attack. Assume she didn't want to scare a classroom of 8 year olds
