No one wants to buy a tainted ring. Your best bet is to pop any stones higher than a .3 carat sell them as is and get your cash for gold or platinum. You will most likely get less than dealer wholesale. Loose stones at least you can make up some bullshite story about them, not failed marriage/engagement related and maybe sell to a consumer/friend
ETA do any stones have certs? If so, from where?

Having been given back the ring isn't something most fellows would want to advertise.. ... but it's her property and if you got it back, it may not be worth a whole lotta shopping around.
I've been witness to more divorces than I could count...and I've actually never heard of any guy ending up with the engagement ring after a divorce.

For clarity, regarding my comment... that is according to Louisiana law that the ring does not fall under property of the community after divorce. Ownership strictly belongs to the ex-wife. Other locations may vary...

Unfortunately I do to and ONLY time I’ve ever seen it was when said ring was a family heirloom and they agreed ring would ultimately go to their daughter (this was in their settlement agreement). In TN, by law, wife gets to keep the rings, so there’s really no use arguing about it. Can’t believe this dude’s wife gave it back. Makes me think she screwed up and it was a peace offering to spare embarrassment.

Mine always kept them. Just bought the next ms one in feb. u can always consign them at most jewelry stores
